Over and Out

This is my beautiful, funny Auntie Gladys.
I’ve written about her  so many times over the years
on my little blog.

On Monday, after a diagnosis only six weeks ago of lung cancer, she passed away peacefully in her sleep.
To say my heart is broken is putting it mildly.

She led a good life, worked hard, loved to follow the horse racing,  was a keen gardener and won many prizes for best backyard in Rochdale.

I bought her a knitted rabbit and she went on to copy it and make several of them over the last six months for family and friends.

Coronavirus has robbed us of so much including not being able to be with my beloved auntie when she needed me the most.  As a family we cannot even comfort each other physically and my Mum will not be able to come to the  funeral.  I hope we all make it out the other side and learn lessons from all this.

As Auntie Gladys used to say before she slammed the
phone down.

  1. What a beautiful and moving post Lynn....she sounds like a feisty and down to earth woman. I'm sorry she died in those circumstances, it's cruel that you can't say goodbye. Like my mum however, she wouldn't have wanted to have lingered on.
Of course you're not ok, so I send my hugest hugs and deepest sympathies to you.

  2. I am so very sorry for your loss. There is a meme going around on the internet that says "It's okay to not be okay" and I think that is so true right now. Your memories of your auntie will keep her alive in your heart forever.

  5. Lynn, what a lovely post this morning - and what a very sad day for you as you will not be able to say goodbye in the way she, and you, would have chosen. May God be close to your heart as you mourn the loss of your aunt. I like Debi's comment - "It's ok not to be ok"> Most applicable in these strange and ever changing times.
Take care, dear girl. I'm sure you will find a beautiful, new and very personal way to say your goodbye. God bless you.

  6. Oh Lynn, I’m so moved by your tribute post, and so sorry for your loss, of course made harder by our maddening circs. Dear gal, Auntie Gladys knew you loved her and would have hated you to break rules and been worried sick about you if you’d been with her. Probably too, being a strongster of her generation she recognised she was very poorly and didn’t want to hold on. I love love love that she kept the best backyard in Rochdale and hope you’ll go on sharing memories with us, what a woman. Just knowing that she slammed the phone down had me smiling. None of us will forget those who leave us during this period and we will be at your shoulder. Sending huge love and hugs.

  23. Oh Lynn... I am so sorry to hear about your lovely Auntie Gladys. The last picture of her waving goodbye is so poignant. It is devastating that in the current crisis we cannot even come together with families to grieve properly and give them a good send-off in the traditional manner. All I can suggest is that when this is all over, that you get together and have a wonderful memorial service for her. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
