Come into the garden Maud

While all you lovely desk hoppers were busy chatting, creating and having fun together I was up in Brighouse, Yorkshire doing the same.

I spent two days stitching, dyeing threads, chatting, laughing, exchanging ideas and being inspired with a group of lovely like minded ladies.

Anne Brooke, textile artist was a fantastic teacher and host,  keeping us supplied with tea and goodies  throughout the day.

I’ve come to realise how good it is for the soul and mind to be with people on your wavelength and to spend time in mindful occupation, whether it’s stitching, crafting, gardening or reading. My aim is to do more of it and to hopefully meet up with you all at next year’s crop.
Hope you all had a fabulous day.  I pretty much can guarantee that you did.

Lynn xx

Come into the garden, Maud,
For the black bat, Night, has flown;
Come into the garden, Maud,
I am here at the gate alone.
I am here at the gate alone.
And the woodbine spices are wafted abroad,
And the musk of the roses blown,
For a breeze of morning moves,
And the planet of love is on high,
Beginning to faint in the light that she loves,
On a bed of daffodil sky,
To faint in the light of the sun she loves,
To faint in his light, and to die.
Come! come!

  1. I knew you would have a fab time...the only difference is that you achieved and mostly, we did not!! What a lovely piece...it needs a label to show that you dyed and sorted and made before stitching, it really belies the work. Come into the Garden Maud is a great piece of literature....my Grandpa used to call the first line at all of us when we went to stay. So much easier than remembering individual names!!

So glad you had an alternative weekend and made such a beautiful sampler. That is lovely and what a lot of different techniques you put into it.

  5. What a day it was wasn't it. The effort was so worth it for the rewards that came with it...fun, friendship and lots of love and hugs. Such a shame you couldnt be with us but it looks like you were having fun too. It was certainly a day to remember for all it's smiles....and we are even considering doing it again now so maybe next time?

  12. What a gorgeous bit of work! I'd love to know how you dyed the threads - so much work's obviously gone into that creation.
My Grandma always used to sing Come Into the Garden, Maud when her sister, my Great Auntie Maud used to come to visit from Chester! xxx

  15. I am so sorry to have taken so long to visit. Unfortunately, my electricity was off this afternoon and into the night due to the storms. Now it is back on and I'm trying to play catch up.

You had me at dyed threads and fabric. This is both beautiful and over the top. A great way to spend the weekend, too. Happy WOYWW from #3.

  17. What a lovely piece of work Lynn, it's utterly gorgeous and it sounds like you had a wonderful day - I can't agree more about the importance of spending time with like-minded people. I do so hope I can get to a crop one day - hopefully the next one might be a little nearer to me - it would be lovely to meet you in person.
