Oh my goodness ……

Hello bloggers,  I am at my desk with some of my No Rules Textile Society chums on a zoom meeting.  There’s been lots of chat about AI, of which I know nothing about as I’m a bit of a dinosaur when it comes to the latest technology.

However, after discussing ChatGPT, I decided to have a go.   I’d no idea what I was doing so as usual I just pushed buttons until something happened.

First up I loaded up two of my own original photographs of pieces
of my work

I asked ChatGpt to create images of a floor mat

a floor mat and a triptych wall hanging.

It’s  frightening and amazing at the same time what it can do.
I can see what all the hoohah is all about amongst the creative industry

How it created this blouse and dress from the two photos was astonishing

I may play around with ChatGPT more, just for my own interest into what it can do,
but I can understand how dangerous it has become to people’s professions.

In all honesty it’s not for me.  I’m sure it has its uses but for me it takes away the
true creativity, the process, the beauty and heart of what we do.

If you want to have a go here’s a link CHATGPT

In the meantime have a good authentic creative week folk at your desks
Lynn

  1. While I really would like a dress like that the mere thought of AI and Chat thingy makes me want to run for the hills and become an off gridder! The thing is I really do like some modern tech, my life is richer for having met wonderful people through these blogs for example, but I think we’re in danger of losing a lot. I wonder if the tide will turn one day?

  2. All that internet and AI worries me lots. What you've created is beautiful but not real so I'm not sure where you go from there. Stay safe with it all my friend.

  3. Hi Lynn, what you and Ai have come up with is amazing but I have to be honest it still scares me a bit what it's capable of. I love what you make without the tech stuff but have to say it's very tempting maybe when I've got more time when I get home I'll give it a go. I think for me it could be something to use more for design ideas especially when the brain gets tired Lol! Take care and have a great woyww. Hugs angela x4x

  4. Fun to read your blog Lynn. You are reminding me that I had a blog long ago as I was getting ready for a trip to Uganda and as a way to take friends, family, and readers on the trip with me. It was fun to capture the excitement of the trip and share it. You are giving me food for thought as I ready myself for my first art show. I’m learning so much and the journey is part of it. Hmmmmm

  6. Now if it could make the dress I would really be impressed 🤣. I find Ai very hit and miss and sometimes it ignores me altogether! Most of the images I use for illustrations in a study, I think it has a use for birthday cards too. Hugs Angela#13

  8. The results of your experiment are wonderful. It would be a useful design tool but the fun would begin when you come to translate it into reality. The garments are stunning though. I might be tempted to play with it. x x Jo 🌈

  10. It was really interesting to see how you created the dress from those images, but I’d rather that AI did the drudge work and left the creativity to me!
    Happy WOYWW, hugs

  11. That is very cool! You coud actually make some of those things! I use Chat GPT a lot, just asking questions, or finding a recipe for the foods I have in the house, and my portrait on the front of my new journal is me "in the style of Klimt". It turned out very well! I love doing photos "in the style of"! ❤️Lindart #15

  12. I must admit that I never felt right using chat GPT when I was at work Lynn, even though many of my colleagues did. I can see the draw but still prefer to produce my own stuff. The blouse and dress do look rather lovely though. Over at Mum's and feeling a bit better. Stay safe and happy belated WOYWW. Sarah

  13. I'm not at all sure about AI, it's a nightmare for the likes of musicians as Jon would tell you, all those untalented people stealing their music! It's very clever how its created those dresses but nothing your creative mind couldn't have come up with! xxx

  14. My son spent 4 years at university learning his craft in film and media. His career and that of thousands of other creatives is in grave danger from AI. That's all.I have to say on the matter.

  15. oh I know what you mean, I dont tend to use IT outside of work as prefer more hands on crafting and allotment etc, but images etc are worringly good some times. Kyla

  16. I've not ventured into the AI stuff. As an author, the program terrifies me. Like it wasn't easy enough before for someone to steal my work but now they 'think' they can write a book without doing the work - and using others words in the process!
I'll tell a story on Wednesday about the ONLY way I would use ChatGP Though I do have to say, those pieces are incredible! Now go make them you're own. LOL
