WOYWW - it’s a busy life being retired

It’s been a busy week in the Holland household.

After the Shibori dyeing workshop I did recently, I started
using the dyed pieces to create festive ornaments, bunting
and cards as part of the No Rules Textile Society latest
prompt - Festivities

Here’s a few bits and pieces on the cork wall in the studio.

Tuesday morning was a 6.00am start.
I took a friend to hospital for her hip replacement operation.
Once back home I ended up sat at the desk stitching after a
my Pilates practice.

I may have revolutionised my days by earlier starts.
The ideas and work flowed well, accompanied by a mug of tea
and Alexa playing music by my current favourite band
Hollow Coves.

Zoom talks have become a new source of inspiration as well and
after a talk by textile artist Susan Briscoe on Sashiko and Boro
stitching I went onto produce this little framed piece.

Those folk who know me for my love of charity shop and
vintage clothing might like this.

Here’s an Instagram chum showing off her St. Michael’s denim
dress that she has had for over 30 years.

Here’s me wearing the same one that I bought from a vintage
trader friend for £5 a few years ago.
Isn’t the shearing gorgeous.

Well folks that’s all from me this week, apart from my Mum
celebrating her 89th birthday yesterday with a surprise afternoon
tea party at the restaurant/bar that I did my courting in with
the wandering welder

There were no afternoon teas 43 years ago as it was a steak
bar and posh drinking hole.

Have a lovely crafty week ladies
Take care, stay well

See you soon
Lynn

  2. That shadow box is gorgeous.
An excellent purchase of the denim dress, never thought of trying charity shops..... I'm looking for winter weight dresses and that denim is fab.
What a wonderful tea.... Hope it was as good as it looks.

  3. I do so enjoy the loveliness you show every week. Your shibori pieces are stunning. Hope your friend's hip op went well, and can see you obviously enjoyed your Mum's special tea party. And in such a special location too. Wonderful.
(I should be cooking but I can't help but desk hop for a bit!)
    Happy WOYWW

  4. My word Lyn, your Mum is doing so well, and who doesn’t like a an afternoon tea to celebrate anything! Love that you’re still so local to your story, makes for so much interest. The two denim dresses from Marks are just perfect, what a wonderful investment purchase they would have been originally. Type of thing I’d wear to death, I just love a nice weight denim dress, jacket, top.
Your shibori works are marvellous, glad that you’ve found your inspirational hours…net it’s something to do with daylight..I end up feeling very sluggish if I leave my Workdesk time till after all the other stuff is done, because it’s always later in the day. Dark. Ugh.

  6. Hi Lynne, I'm enjoying seeing all the projects you've been working on recently. Wish I was half as prolific but it doesn't matter how early I get up, apart from housework and cooking, I struggle to accomplish much these days. Your mother looks wonderful and so does the afternoon tea. Happy WOYWW. Elizabeth x 6

  8. What a lovely treat for your Mum - happy birthday to her! I love that dress - is it real smocking - it's one of my favourite things to do. Max used to have a new smocked dress every season until at about 7 she said "Do I have to have that stuff all over my clothes!" lol. Ah well - that's probably why she produced a grandson for me! Your little blue stitchy piece is lovely. xxx

  19. I love the shearing on your dress. I have a Laura Ashley denim type long dress that too, must be over thirty years...but, no shearing. its partner on the rail had shearing but was too small at size 6! Is that a real size!? My daughter would love to own a real tea shop and sell cakes and tea all day! Looks yummy! (She's a Town Planner!)Stay Safe! Keep on Crafting. Happy late WOYWW!?((Lyn))#16
