THE GREEN EYED MONSTER

We’ve arrived. After a good drive down from the north west four hours later
we landed at my sister’s in Witney, Oxford.

And I’ll have to tell you there’s a touch of the green eyed monster
about as I sit here in my sister’s pretty cottage garden.
I really am quite envious even though I have my own patch.

The variegated rose has been flowering for years and has a lovely perfume to it.
It’s been in that long she can’t remember the name of it. After googling it,
we think it could be called ‘Sentimental’

I’ve not been used to driving long distances for quite some time and doesn’t my
back know it. I’m like an old crock. Happily Frida my 18 year old VW beetle
survived the journey better than me and like me she loves the bit when we get on
the toll road. It’s so nice after the high volume of traffic on the M6.

After a chippy tea we sat and had a relaxing evening chatting.

On Thursday we went into Witney and I treated myself to a browse around Waterstones.
It must be two years since I’ve been in a bookshop. It felt so nice and I treated myself
to this book. An author I’ve not read before but have heard good reviews about.

Jill called in the Sota Gallery to pick up a poster she’d had framed.
The range of artists and types of art was amazing and we chatted for ages with the
owners about the pieces and how they were created and sourced.

Philip was pretty starstruck when he found out that the clockmaker Steve is the very
same one who appears on the BBC programme ‘The Repair Shop’.

He even went in on the pretext of having his watch looked at.
We giggled when he came out sulking because Steve was on holiday.

On Saturday I’m off to meet one of the members of my No Rules Textile Society.
We are going to visit the excellent sewing centre in Witney and then go for coffee
and cake.

Have a lovely weekend
Lynn

  2. Teddy Bears of Witney! I recognised the name Witney immediately! I have bought many teddy Bears from there in the past. They have the famous Red Bear Alfonzo that belonged to Princess Xenia. You really should take a look. Sorry getting too excited Lol! The garden looks lovely and the Gallery is stunning. I love watching the Repair shop too. Have a lovely weekend. Hugs, Angela xXx

  3. That was quite a send off wasn't it. I think you could say they were doing it in style! Rather lovely to see actually and the flowers were beautiful.
I am sure the willow tree will fight back. What a shame about the weeds in the park. Some can be very aggressive. I am sure the council will deal them though. They can't let a 'few' weeds spoil all the work they have done there.
The funnies did make me smile, though I am quite glad ours don't get the opportunity to roll around the countryside. And I don't allow them to lick my face either.
I am not doing well with publishing comments today but I'll give it a try. Kate x

  4. I had just written a comment and before sending it I decided to have a look at the Goodreads reviews of your book. When I got back, my comment had disappeared so now I have to start over again. How annoying.
I can well imagine you feel a bit envious of your sister's garden. I think I would too. It is beautiful. I was especially impressed by the very special variegated rose. I have never seen one actually.
The book sounds interesting. I have not read it and will be interested to hear what you think. I have not read anything by that author.
The art shop looks like a great place to nose around and the clock repairer is a fantastic find! I have seen the Repair Shop a few times when I was visiting my mum.
Have a lovely day at Whitney tomorrow,
    Hugs,
    Lisca

  5. Your sister's cottage garden is absolutely enchanting, as is that variegated rose! There's a touch of the green eyed monster here as well, not only because of the garden, but also because of you being in Witney. We holidayed in nearby Standlake two years running, and often visited Witney! Enjoy! xxx

  6. I'm a bit envious of your sister's glorious garden, too - it's amazing! I've never seen a rose like that before, it really is beautiful.
I've not read Never Let Me Go but loved The Buried Giant and Remains of the Day.
Oh dear, poor Philip not meeting his hero! xxx
