NEVER TOO OLD TO LEARN

There’s not a lot happened since Wednesday’s blog post except
for learning about a Japanese printing method called Hapa Zome.
Flower bashing to you and me.

Here’s my first attempt.

Then I messed about with the image on PhotoGrid and
came up with a lovely print.

There’s been a call out from best friend Sue asking if I had
a toilet bag her Dad could borrow to take in hospital with him.

This led me to quickly stitching one together with no idea what
I was doing and ending up with one flowered side and one tweed side.
Don’t ask me how that happened, the flowers should be on the inside.
I knew I was getting a bit above myself thinking I could do it.

The night before at the sewing class I’m attending I managed to
make this fabric box with blow by blow instructions by teacher
Gail. I’ve never been as quiet in my life, I had to concentrate so hard.

I was sharp enough to use the same fabric on the inside as the
tote bag I made last week and I’ve got them earmarked now for a
friend’s special birthday later this year.

Next week is the last of the sewing classes. Even though I’ve
managed to finish things it requires far too much brain power
for my liking. I’m more of a faffer and bodge it sewer.

I spotted this the other day and thought Annie’s Friday Smile ladies
would appreciate it.

Here’s a little update of what’s going on in the garden

Hope you are all enjoying the sunshine.
Have a good weekend
Lynn

  1. I had just written a comment and then I clicked on the link to watch Hapa Zome. When I came back to your page, the comment had gone and now I have to start all over again.
I remember commenting how beautiful your garden is and that July really is the best month for the garden. Well done.
I smiled at the inside out wash-bag. I recently wanted to sew a pocket into one of my house dresses. You can guess what happened. I got it completely the wrong way round! You're not the only one.
The thing about eating in the 50s is so true. It made me smile.
    Have a lovely weekend,
    Hugs,

    1. Haha I’m glad it’s not just me that can’t visual the order of things.
Hope your weekend has been a lovely one

  2. Yes 'Eating in the 50's' made me smile too, so very true. Friends and I became very sophisticated in the 60's - discovering Chinese and Italian food, sharing a bottle of Mateus Rose or Blue Nun between four of us, and Vesta 'curries' ha ha.

    1. Haha yes I can go along with all that Julia and saving the Mateus bottles to put candles in.
That blue nun wine stinks. I don’t know how I drank it

  3. That previous comment made me smile. I was just about to say the most exotic thing we ate was vesta curries!
Your garden is so lovely. I love all the contrasting colours and cute additions.
The sewing would be hard work for me to. I have just done a 'bodger' job to lengthen a dress I like with some contrasting fabric, and used a little to edge the sleeves to tie it all in. It wouldn't win any prizes but it will do for me.

    1. Oh Kate you’re a woman after my own heart. Why can’t folk understand not all our brains are wired fur same way. I can’t crotchet either but I’ve got lots of imagination for creative work
From one bodger to another have a good week xx

  4. Sorry I'm so late with my visits...I've taken in 5 tops for me this morning [it's what is needed when you lose weight :-)] and made another school Memory bear....a busy morning.
Hehe we all make mistakes Lynn...yours is rather a pretty mistake I must say lol. Persevere with the sewing you're rather good at it.
Hope you have a great week.

  5. Lol, I can’t comment much on the 50’s as I’m a 60’s chick but it did make me giggle. As for flower bashing, we would bash rose petals into our handkerchief to see what f we could make them smell of roses!

    1. I remember as a child bashing roses and pretending to make perfume. It was usually disgusting haha

  6. Hi Lynn. I'm impressed, well done with your sewing projects. Some people thing making stuff like this is easy but you know better. It takes a lot of thought and care to get a product to look professionally finished. I had an uncle who saw some teddy bears I made and thought he could make and sell them. He made one and gave up the poor thing looked as though it had some terrible disfigurement! Have a great weekend. Hugs, Angela xXx

    1. I think we all do a bit of the “I could do that” then realise it’s not that simple.
Anybody who can dress-make or crotchet has my utmost respect. My brain is just not wired for either. Angela.

  7. I love that food list - that was a fun read. I laughed at the bottled water one - a friend back in the 1980s was going to start a business bottling water to sell and we thought he was completely daft... sadly it turned out he wasn't.
I also love your katazome work - the design you created on the computer is beautiful!

    1. Thank you I’m going to do some more flower bashing when it fits in with a project.
I knew someone who set up a bottled water business in the late 90’s and it’s still going strong.

  8. That flower bashing experiment turned out alright, didn't it? I absolutely love the print you've created, it would make gorgeous wallpaper!
I'm loving the garden update, but I wonder why that gnome is looking so sad!
Loved the eating in the 50s list, how things have changed! xxx

    1. I’ve added the flower bashing to my list of things to explore more of Ann. If you saw the list I’d have to love forever to get through it haha.
The gnome is a reflection of Philip when he opens his wallet xxx

  9. I am having trouble leaving comments. In fact, for nearly two days, even though I kept refreshing, there was no comment box at all. This was especially true for embedded comment boxes like yours. It must have been a Blogger glitch.

I think your bag turned out great and your garden photos are simply STUNNING. I especially enjoyed learning about what people ate in the 50s and 60s. Before my time, but I really enjoyed it. Hope your weekend was fabulous, Lynne.
