May moves into June and the world is opening up

How quickly we moved through May.  There was a trip to the opticians,
a couple of outings, a first pint in six months for the wandering
welder.  We went on some local walks and I enjoyed learning some
new techniques with my No rules Textile Society.

And the biggest thing was seeing my sister after seven months.

June has come in with sunshine for us to enjoy the peace of the garden.

Emily Dahlia has joined the party and a new hydrangea that I
picked up on an outing with my friend Sue last week.

There’s not a lot to report since Wednesday other than we went
to the market for the first time in two weeks and I had to carry the
shopping as the wandering welder still has a dicky back.

We’ve spent a lot of time in the garden watching the blue tits
flying in and out of the bird box feeding their young

and we continue to be mesmerised by the £10 solar fountain in our little pond.
So much so we bought another and put it in an old jam pan at the front of the house.

Tomorrow the cork wall in the studio will be stripped of its
weave project ready for a new prompt at Saturday’s zoom meeting
with the No Rules Textile Society and Sunday we are trying a new
Italian Restaurant called Grasso in Todmorden.

Now if you’ll excuse me I’ve got this cornflake cake to get through
before catching up on the Great British Sewing Bee.  I’ve signed up
for a four session course on dressmaking at a local tailors shop, at the
end of June.  It’ll be a miracle if I produce anything other than a mess.

Enjoy the sunshine and the weekend.

  1. Well done on all the sewing. It is my least favourite craft so I am still persuading myself that I need to shorten two dresses before the summer has been and gone! But it is on my list again for this week.
I love the hydrangea and lavender. I have bought both recently. Of course, as its name suggests, the hydrangea is a water plant by origin so I have to remember to keep it well watered, but they do seem to do well here even in a big pot, and come back each year.
I like the solar fountain. I have often wondered how efficient they are. I must look into that. I want something with water in a raised container for the bees and birds. The dogs drink the ones on ground level dry, every day, despite all their water bowls around the yard that I fill every day.
Enjoy your sewing course. To each his own... Kate x

    1. The solar fountain is really efficient Kate. You just need to keep an eye on the water level don’t let the water level get low or the unit will break. It’s lovely to watch it though.

  2. A lovely collage depicting your month of May. I like the photo of the wandering welder enjoying his pint.
Your plants are gorgeous. I love the close-up of the hydrangea. And it must be exciting to await a new project (with an empty cork board).
I've just looked at the link for the Italian restaurant Grasso (Do you know that means fat?). The food looks very yummy. Let us know what you had and how it was.
    Have a lovely weekend,
    Hugs,
    Lisca

    1. I’m going to ask them why they called it Grasso when we go, as I noticed they had put up the meaning of the word on their Instagram page. It seems strange doesn’t it
      Enjoy your weekend too Lisca

  3. Sorry for the late visit....we’re on an adventure in our motor home 😀
I love the solar fountain...I always enjoy the sound of running water but it would cause more trips to the loo for me....the sound of water has always had that effect on me (just ask Jo cos being mybig sister it was usually her job to take me to the loo 😂😂😂).
    Hugs,

And that solar fountain looks beautiful. You truly have it all together. And that weaving wall is amazing. I love, love, love your wall. So glad you shared it before it comes down. Have a super rest of Friday and weekend, dear.

    1. It’s only this year it has become a nice place to sit. Before Philip retried he didn’t want to do any work in it, understandably so and I couldn’t manage it on my own. It’s lovely to be in it now though
      Have a good weekend xx

  5. Things are picking up and all we can do is hope that it continues. Those little water fountains are really good, we got one last year to put in the pond. Loving your garden pics too and the Blue Tits. We have a pair in a box on the wall and although it's quite near the house they don't seem bothered. I noticed the caterpillars they are collecting are getting bigger so bet it wont be long before the babies come out. Good luck with the dressmaking, I'm sure you'll get the hang of it once you've learned the basics. Have a lovely weekend too. Hugs, Angela xXx

    1. The blue tits are opposite our front door too Angela and they don’t bother when we stand and watch them either. I’ll be sad when they go, I’ll miss their singing. Enjoy your weekend xx

  6. June wow June already what a month I think it is going to be for us. We have extended our stay until the end of July at least.
Missing my kids like mad, cry everytime I see them on zoom. Paul said I could go home but I am enjoying seeing my family as well. At least it is hotting up for you guys .
You are doing well with the no rules sewing. I did some boro sewing on my jeans as I ripped my pocket in a charity shop and they didn’t even apologise!
I prefer English TV to Japanese TV. We have been watching loads of docs and enjoying them. Walking mum and dad’s naughty new dog milo. And enjoying being here even if it is for work and for a sad time. And sadly he is now in hospital detorating and we can’t see him. And yes they got a lot of abuse.
I hope the wandering welder gets well soon and l hope you enjoyed your cake. We had cherry loaf and it was yummy. Love and hugs Alison

  7. What a glorious set of photos, Rankin and Chris Packham would be very impressed with your capture of the blue tit in flight, it's wonderful.
I nearly bought one of those solar fountains when I saw one on Gardeners' World last year, I'd even set my old jam pan aside for the same purpose - talk about great minds thinking alike!
I bet you're excited to be back in Tod! xxx

    1. It’s so nice to be able to go to see everyone again and it’s nice to see the market stalls full. It’s got some great food stalls. I think Tod will come into its own now things are reopen. It was building up nicely before Covid.
The solar fountains are so relaxing to watch. Only thing with the jam pan is I’m constantly topping it up with water. I may have to have a rethink with that one. What about putting one in your pond xxx

  8. Sounds like you had the most wonderful month of May, the highlight being your sister's visit obviously! I'm loving your new acquisitions for the garden, and the photo of the blue tit in flight is absolutely amazing. A Solar fountain, now that's what we need for our little pond. I'll be on the lookout.xxx
