A spring weekend and some patchwork

On Thursday I took Mum to her local park to see the carpet of crocus a friend had told me about.
It’s years since I’ve been there and it was so nice to see that the council have ploughed a lot of money into the upkeep of it.

I’m on my second module of an online course - No Rules Patchwork. It involved cutting, stitching, rearranging, three different fabric pieces, then repeating the process again as many times as you want with the same fabrics.

Like the first task I didn’t know where I was going with this piece until I thought of making it into a bag for the rubbish rotary cutter I’d bought for the course. At least it can’t annoy me if I can’t see it. Actually I’ve decided to send it back and invest in a decent one.

It’s Saturday again and as we can’t go over the hills to Todmorden for a potter round and a bit of lunch, I thought I might as well crack on with the next assignment on my course.

Using two  pieces of different fabric bonded together the cutting, stitching, rearranging, repeat process began again.

At college I always had to be told everything ten times, well I’m no different now.  I think I’m going to have to revisit the course videos a few times for it to sink in.

Nevertheless I’m happy with the little textile piece I’ve ended up with.  I may add some beads to it yet.

I treated myself to this beautiful journal from Kate at The Journal Shed. I’m nearly at the end of the one I’m using now and I’ve decided that this one will reflect the happier times we are moving into and I’ll hopefully
be able to add little sketches and mementos of places we’ve been.

Look at the stunning day that followed last nights Snow Moon.

I hope everyone is keeping busy and cheerful.
We are moving forward now folk.

  1. What a lovely post Lynn. I love crocuses (as you will see on my new blog header pic). Your patchwork really is gorgeous. I might have a go...if I ever get on top of all the work that’s suddenly coming in through my door. I’m already expecting to make 5 Memory bears and 8 Memory cushions this week 😀
    Hugs,

    1. Hi Annie
It’s nice to know business has picked up for you. I do chuckle when I start cutting fabric, there’s not a straight line in sight. There’s no way I could do anything like you do. Keep smiling my friend
      Love Lynn xxx

  2. I love the collage of the park, it looks a lovely place for a wander.
Your patchwork is absolutely gorgeous and I'm with you on having to keep listening to instructions over and over again, I still have to watch the crochet hat tutorial before I make one even though I've got a suitcase full of them.
Wasn't that snow moon beautiful last night? I'm glad Jon made me get out of bed and look at it now! xxx

  3. Wow, that's a lot of Crocuses indeed!
I love the patchwork bag you've made. I am with you and Vix, though, on having to listen to or read instructions repeatedly before they make any sense. So glad I'm in good company.
I am so glad you are moving forward into happier times. We aren't yet, which is making me sad and angry at our authorities at the same time. I need my life back! xxx
Your second textile piece is amazing, a real work of art!

    1. Things are moving forward Ann but in reality we still cannot do anything or go anywhere for quite some time yet. I’ll have to admit I’m struggling a bit at the moment. Keeping busy isn’t helping much. Maybe I should slow down.
I’m so glad it’s not just me who doesn’t take things in straight away. That makes me feel better.
I used to go to that park as a child. It’s so lovely now. Wonderful for all the people who I’ve nearby xxx

    1. I wouldn’t use the word “fun” to describe what I’m doing. Well not yet anyway. Mindful, maybe. Frustrating, as it takes my brain ages to process things. Omg what am I doing haha. 😂

  5. Ah what a lovely post Lynn - I am sure I wouldn't have any straight lines either, if I had a go at your patchwork. Your results are lovely, so obviously, it's the "having a go" and your artistic eye that matter more than straight lines - I love it! xx Jo
