Lockdown Diary 2021 - Here we go again

Here we go again.

Another lockdown here in the UK.  I’ll have to think up some winter garden gate displays for the folk walking by with their dogs and kiddywinks like we had in the summer.

Our one outing of the week is to our local outside market at Bacup on a Wednesday. We’ve been doing this every week since last March.  This week the only stalls there were Peter the butcher, Kevin the greengrocer and the lovely couple who run the Patisserie stall.  John the fishmonger isn’t back until next week.  Fish is so expensive after Christmas it’s not worth him turning out. Fortunately, knowing that, we stocked up before he finished

Inspired by my lovely friend Vix’s recent blog post of their walk round Walsall where they live I took a few snaps of Bacup while we were out.

This lovely stone building is currently being turned into apartments.  It’s the old Conservative Club.

There’s some lovely buildings and in the last couple of years there’s been an influx of new businesses and the shop fronts have been given an upgrade.

We’ve even got our own version of Banksy on the walls of the local pub.

Once back home the shopping gets washed off and put away and then it’s time for a late lunch and a quiet afternoon catching up on blog posts, reading and maybe a crossword or two.

Sadly our next door neighbour of over 30 years passed away this week so there’s been a bit of quiet reflection and due to covid restrictions we are unable to attend the funeral.

I came across this photo taken on this day in 2018.
It must have been a lot warmer that year as I’ve got my red gingham frock on.

Stay safe, stay in, so that we can welcome the summer with a smile.
Love Lynn

    1. Thank you Liz. I’d have taken more pics if it hadn’t been so cold.
      Take care

  2. It's lovely to see the photographs of our old hunting ground. I seem to have lived in places which are very distinctive and different. Born in an old mining village in South Yorkshire, Teacher training in Newcastle Upon Tyne, Teaching in Wigan for eleven years and ending up in Lincolnshire and how different they all were. My only problem was getting used to the different accents and local dialect but even that was fun too. Take care and have a lovely week, Angela xXx

    1. You should hear my thick Lancashire accent Angela, it would make you laugh. The singing is even worse.

  3. I'm really late in doing my visits today. My excuse is I got rather distracted in making Wilhelmina Wood Mouse a pintucked blouse [as you do :-)]. I plan to do a show on tell on my Wednesday's post if you want to see the results.
Can I please say that if you're putting teddies out for the children to see that you dress them well with plenty of layers on. :-)
    Hugs,
    Annie x

  4. So good to hear you still have a market of sorts to go to. Ours has been closed for months but it did open on Christmas week and last week, but this week only a very few stalls were there and I suspect it will not open at all next Tuesday.
It looks very cold where you are. I have to admit that one of the things we moved to Spain for was the weather, and I will be happy when the blue skies are back. We have rain for a week but it is a rare occurrence here and the land needs it, but I don't mind it being cold when the skies are blue.
I wonder what you will put on that gate. Maybe you will show us next week. Kate x

    1. It’s to cold to go out and mess about yet Kate, so I’ll have to carry on faffing around in my craftroom.
      Take care

  5. Bacop looks and sounds like a lovely and lively place! It's great that you're still able to go to your favourite stall at its outdoor market, even if it is your week's only outing. Looking forward to seeing your winter garden gate displays. And I'm sure I'm not the only one either :-) Stay safe, my lovely friend xxx

    1. It’s to cold to be messing about outside yet Ann so I’m doing a lot of faffing about in my craftroom. No crafting, just putting my lines straight, as my friend says.
I enjoy moving things around and giving the room fresh feel. I’m going to tackle the pile of stuff under the desk tomorrow.
Take care Ann and have a good weekend xxxx

  6. I thoroughly enjoyed the photos today, including your local outdoor market. We only have those during the summer here, and I think they didn't allow them last summer due to the corona virus. It LOOKED cold there, too. Makes me shiver now that I'm finally starting to warm up.

Loved the Banksy like building. Sounds like it will be easy to sell or rent places to live there. Have a great rest of Friday and a lovely weekend, dear Lynn.

  7. What a fabulous post! Thanks so much for the mention!
I loved seeing Bacup through your eyes, the wonderful graffiti and the grand municipal architecture, the photo of Frida and you filling your shopping bag is brilliant. Our thousand year old market never reopened after lockdown.
I bet you can't wait for a change in temperature so you can get an outside display going and cheer all the passer-by up! xxx

    1. We love our weekly outing to Bacup Vix, the traders are so nice and the quality of the produce we buy is so good. There’s plenty of banter, which is much needed and there’s always the promise of picking up something nice for lunch from the bakery. It’s nice how small simple things have become such a pleasure.xxx

  8. We have been without Internet this weekend and now that it's back, I have seen that my comment has not arrived. (I did it on my iPhone, but Blogger doesn't like iPhones)
I can't remember what I wrote as it is a few days ago (yes, my memory is that bad) but I remember commenting on the Banksy type 'graffitti', and the lovely photos of Bacup.
It's good that you can get stuff at a local market, even if it's outdoors. (most of our markets are outdoors). Healthy local produce, there's nothing better.
And thank you for the tulips. I love tulips (being Dutch). We are all looking forward to the time when we can go and buy beautiful tulips again.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend,
    Keep safe,
    Hugs,
    Lisca
