Lockdown again - There’s worse places to be

There’s worse places to be in lockdown and we know how lucky we are to live where we do on top of a hill on the edge of the moorland.

The first thing we come to within a minute of leaving our gate is the first of two ponds.  The fish come swimming over to see if you’ve brought them anything to eat.  They are whoppers.  There’s carp and tench (so I’ve been told). I can see why Bob Mortimer and Paul Whitehouse get so excited on their telly programme ‘Gone Fishing’,  I get quite giddy when I see them popping their heads up looking for food.

Next up we get to see the horses that board in the stables at the top of our lane.

Although we’ve missed the blackberries and beautiful purple heather we now get to see the stunning colours of autumn.

Once back home we worked out shopping lists for Aldi.  We are planning a big dry goods shop that will last us hopefully two to three months.  We will go in the van armed with a list each so we can double up on everything without getting shouted at for panic buying.  Top and bottom of it is that after Philip’s bout of sepsis & pneumonia and him being in the vulnerable category of 70+ we are planning on going out a lot less over the next few months.

We will carry on buying our fresh produce at our little local outside market.  It’s our Wednesday outing when we get to have a chat and a chuckle with the traders.

So as the winter woollies come out you’ll be sure to find us roaming the moors or pounding the country lanes to get our daily exercise until things settle down again.

Now keep your fingers crossed that my 17 year VW Beetle ‘Frida’ passes her MOT today.

Well that’s me done here now, I’m off into the kitchen, I’ve got a date with Jamie Oliver’s 5 ingredients book and his flaky pastry fish pie.

Have a good week and stay safe folk.
Waving at you from the top of our hill

  1. My friend is moving to a house on the hill just like yours on Friday. It's in a lovely part of Scotland and I'll miss her terribly. Her hubby's already put in for planning permission to clear some trees and build a barn for his classic cars which he renovates! My car went through its MOT last week but needed two new tyres at the front which made a bit of a dent in my purse when it came to paying. You even get charged for tyre disposal too!!Hope yours flies through. Have a good week and good luck at Aldi!x

  3. You do live in a most beautiful spot in your house on the hill, Lynn. There are indeed far worse places to be in lockdown! You are very sensible but I do keep imagining you two at Aldi, with separate shopping trolleys and arm-long lists :-) I do hope all went well with Frida's MOT! xxx

  5. you live in a beautiful part of the world, we’re you can switch off and ignore the rest of the outside. You can walk in peace and soak up the country side. My mum went to Aldi on Sunday for opening she has asthma and she said the place was rammed. They had all the tills on.
So she stocked up on everything she needed like you did. She asked about me and I just said we are just as normal. Booked our KFC for Xmas day a Japanese tradition and just went about our lives as normal. She cried a bit . I told her we will meet again soon.
I don’t know what else to say. Zoom sucks when you want to hug the one you love.

  6. I think you're being very sensible especially not living within walking distance of shops like us townies who can pop out for a pot of Lancashire Farm yogurt at 8am and be back and sitting at the kitchen table eating it for breakfast at 8.15!
You live in a beautiful place, enjoy every minute of it.
Fingers crossed it was good news for Frida! xxx
