What’s on your Workdesk Wednesday

How are you all doing ?  Sorry if I sound a bit muffled I’m practicing wearing my mask.  The wandering welder says it should be a permanent thing.  Cheeky !

I can’t remember the last time I bought paper to wrap a present, usually I scout around the house to see what there is.

For a friend’s 70th this week I’ve made a bag out of a scented drawer liner.  It’s machine stitched along the bottom (you could use double sided tape).  As you can see I’ve punched two holes in the top and threaded a bit of string through to hold it together.  The back overlaps so didn’t need any securing.

This one contains a book and it’s wrapped in 1945 magazine pages and again a bit of string.  This one is for our neighbour  and friend Mark.  He will love reading the articles on the wrapping and the book I hope.

On the go I’ve got a hole to repair in a vintage underskirt and a little project to work with that you can read about here

I’m reading my Anne Brooke’s Textile Wanderings Book again to while away a rainy afternoon and to inspire the stitching I’ll be doing.

If you’ve been following the Art tour around my house
posts, here’s a wonderful gift we were sent by my Instagram chum Rachel. Isn’t she clever. She’s even got my Orla Kiely shoes to a T.

Well I hope you lovely desk hoppers are having better weather than us Northern lasses, it’s been rain, rain and more  rain.  Don’t know about wearing masks, it’s wellies and raincoats here.

Take care
Lynn

  2. LOVE the wrapping ideas, the vintage paper is wonderful and making a gift bag like that is clever, I shall remember that one! I am sitting here in shorts and thin top, we're definitely on the better side of the weather in South Wales this week. I laughed at the mask, give that man of yours a clip round the ear.

  6. Hi Ducky - I am calling you that because we both should be ducks living up north and all the rain we get. Funny how Spring now seems to be better for us weather wise. Love your wrappings and the painting - off to see the spoon now.
    Hugs, Neet xx 3

  9. I love Rachel's art work! That was from a photo taken at Stockport, wasn't it? It's fabulous and she's caught your posh shoes a treat.
Your wrapping is always amazing, I love these and hope your friend has a brilliant 70th.
I've made myself a few masks this week, I think I prefer myself in them than without! xxx

  10. I have been wearing my mask and trying to find ways to stop my glasses steaming up - i also didn't realize how much of a smiler i am, and of course no one can see me smile at them now ! Your house is beautiful , there is a small chance I could get mine to look that lovely - just need to find somewhere for the rest of my family to live ;) xx Have a fab week. Soojay #18

  11. I was about to comment when I saw Sue's comment above and found myself nodding in agreement regarding the steaming up of glasses and the fact that people cannot see me smile! And now we have to wear them the minute we get outside our front door too here in Belgium! Anyway. I absolutely love how you wrapped your neighbour's present in pages from a vintage magazine! What fun, I always loving seeing the old ads! xxx

  12. You always have such interesting projects on your blog, Lynn. I love the idea of making a pretty bag from a scented drawer liner. Thank you for visiting - glad you like my tiny carpets. It's a fun project, and the new head magnifier is really helpful!

    Happy WOYWW,

  13. I smiled when you said you don't buy wrapping paper. I save any tissue paper that I can and reuse any old wallpaper for wrapping gifts but my favourite is stamping on brown wrapping paper and I have to say I did buy some of that. The weather here has been quite nice today though we have had some cloud as well as sun. When we moved to Lincoln from Ashton-In-Makerfield I thought it was global warming that was causing the grass to go brown in the summer and then I realised that in the West side of the country it was still raining, going to rain or it had just stopped raining so no change there Lol! Have a lovely crafty woyww, Angela x14x

  14. Hi Lynn. Sorry I'm late - the day has been rather full of paint and phonecalls!! Lovely ways to gift wrap your presents. Well done. I don't think I would have thought of using a drawer liner - scented or otherwise!
    Take care. God bless.

  15. its been blooming humid here again!! 87 percent!! Thank the lord for air con. Went to see my lovely virologist who is pleased to see my progress. I am allowed out but have to wear a mask and take regular temperature checks.
Lovely wrapping techniques, my mum used to recycle wrapping paper and xmas cards and make tags out of them with her pinking sheers. We use fabric in japan and tie it in a fancy knot at the top and you can either use it as a hankie or a scarf, they love a good hankie or a scarf do the Japanese. I got a gift wrapped in an obi belt once. I still wear the obi belt. I love things you can use reuse.

  16. I don’t buy much wrapping paper, but my gifts don’t come as lovely as yours...will try hard to emulate you even more in the future! So sorry about the rain rain rain, have to admit to some beautiful days here, although I’ve had one of those weeks of rushing about and then when it was all over, I sloped about not feeling the need to do much at all. Your art tour is fab. Ours is a strange mix, largely concentrated on the wall going up the stairs because everywhere else is full too...in fact, my latest acquisition by Ali Coulter is hanging over my mother’s bed in the care home because there’s no room here for it yet....a major decorating nad reorganising will occur at some point. At some point.
