Storytelling ................

Last week I started clearing out my workroom and here’s the end result.  A freshly painted wall, tidiness and calm.

An Instagram friend sent me some of her beautiful paintings and I’ve added one to the collection of things on top of my cabinet.

I’ve sat in my room looking round, letting it show me what direction to take next.  Might sound fanciful but it worked.

And I was drawn to the wool children’s garment I’ve had for ages and not done anything with.

Out came the red thread and these words appeared

My mood has been a bit low recently but that’s okay because from it “Lockdown Stories” are appearing.

There could be more, who knows, I’m just going with it.

When I looked at this tiny dolls gown, these words popped into my head

“I’m to small to be burdened with all this”

I know I may sound a bit glum,  but outside the garden gate displays are still going strong with passersby loving them and returning time and again to see what’s out this week.  So I just need to flick on the happy switch in my head and normal service will be resumed.

In the meantime I’ve pen and notepad at the ready for whatever story pops into my head next.

Have a great week desk hoppers and stay safe.

  2. Actually, it's ok to be downhearted, it's been a long time in lockdown and I think we're all feeling the effects. We can't be jolly all the time, things will lift when it's the right time for you. Meanwhile, I think you're doing such a great job lifting the spirits of all those people passing your door, well done xx

  3. Yes, I guess life is full of ups and downs and we just have to hold on tight and keeping going. It's good to say we are downhearted and recognise why we feel like we do. You seem to do so much to lift the spirits of others and that is such a clever and thoughtful thing to be able to do. I love the look of your "new" room. xx Jo #18

  5. Morning Lynn. Loving your little stories. Yes indeed. Who would have thought, this time last year, that we would be three months into this time of isolation. I felt really down last week as I realized that my daughters - who live in England and have more freedom now than we have here in Wales, would be setting up a bubble - not with me - but with others. However - I have managed to be somewhat more motivated this week. The time will come for you, too.
I love that Big Ted - remember Play School??
Take care. Stay safe. God bless.

  6. I just love the tambour screens on that cabinet. That lovely Sage green is a very restful colour isn’t it. I actually understand the part about sitting and gazing and letting it tell you where to go and do something...I get it. Lovely words and stitching on that very sweet little apron. You’re allowed to be contemplative - apart from anything else, its clearly another way you get inspired!

  8. I'm loving the new look of your room and am certain you will get 'instruction' as to where to go next. I'm having a bit of a lull too and spent my day cleaning my sewing room so maybe I will get a little divine intervention to show me the way to go soon too. Just knowing we are all there for each other helps I'm sure. Keep smiling and doing what you do to lift the spirits of others and it will all bounce back to you too.
    Hugs,

  9. Feeling down just shows your beautiful touching humanity. As you continue to bring smiles to so many through your garden gate display and turn your magic into rearranging your studio and crafting amazing words I look forward to Wednesday. Look after yourself and keep creating.

  10. Love the green wall, it's a beautiful shade, and you have worked so hard.

It is all very strange indeed at the moment. I feel more 'down' than I did during the stricter confinement and my energy and motivation hard to get going. Probably because I am missing my sister who is my only close relative and who is in another country, together with the realisation that we have a long, long way to go before approaching anything like 'normality'.

How about a little song from you and The Wandering Welder (can we still call him that I wonder!) to cheer us all up!

  11. Your workroom looks beautiful Lynn, and yes sometimes it's really good to just sit and contemplate. I love what you are doing to cheer your neighbours during lock down and put a smile on people's faces, I'm sure it's greatly appreciated. Look after yourself and I hope you have a lovely and creative week,

  13. I absolutely love the way you have both allowed these stories to come to you, and, how you are displaying them. I'm doing a writing course with Beth Kempton at the moment (I got it free with her book "We are in this together"), it's called Words Heal and I think you would love it. It's only 2 weeks, just a little something each day for 6 days a week, and I have thoroughly enjoyed it. I hope you can find your happy switch (and if you do, please let me know where!) 16. Your workroom looks lovely. I think we are all having days and feelings like this, when not feeling chirpy, but that is okay. Just take each day as it comes. Loving your little thoughts and embroidery.

  17. Hi Lynn, your room looks lovely and tidy. Some stories are sad stories and sometimes writers have to go where the muse takes them. Your outside display is still inspiring others x Angela #33

  18. What an oasis of calm your newly revamped workroom is. So tidy too! I love the embroidered words on that child's garment. What a lovely idea, and who knows which lockdown stories will develop from it. It's OK to feel glum once in a while. I think you just have to go with the flow. May tomorrow be a happier one for you, my lovely friend xxx

  19. Keep smiling, Lynn - you are doing fine, and continue to be an inspiration to us all! As Scarlett O'Hara was so fond of saying, "Tomorrow is another day." I love the way you have been sharing with your neighbours, and your beautiful room has had such a tidy up and is now an oasis of peace and calm. Your imaginative treatment of the woollen garment is charming.

I wanted to say how thrilled I am to have found Vix via the comments on your blog. We are now visiting each other regularly and sharing lots in common - a lovely new online friendship! I find her very inspiring.

I LOVE that crochet jumper you are wearing!! I'm turning a bright shade of green.

    Happy WOYWW,

Love the way you have been decorating, you have the most beautiful thoughts and you use them to perfection, thinking here in particular of the words added to the clothing.

  26. Hi Lynne, sorry for the late visit. I had my 'low' moment a couple of weeks ago - this whole lockdown/isolation is so strange to us, and not being able to see family. Your room looks lovely and tranquil, that colour is certainly a soothing, chilling colour. I love the idea of your outdoor displays, I can understand why people return to look at them. My summerhouse is now my peaceful and tranquil place - my craft room is just too hot. Have a lovely week and stay safe and well, Heather xx #4

  27. Hi Lynne! Today is day 101 of lockdown for me, probably close for you too. It is rough, a whole new way of life for lots of us. I love the little stories that pop out. It's like when I listen to my journal saying "no! I want it done this way!" Who knows who's really in our heads! LOL! Have a wonderful week, Lindart #29
