Rabbits & Hedgehogs on the walls

We’ve lived in our 1950’s house for 29 years and upto 12 years ago it was a semi detached bungalow.  When the neighbours said they wanted to put a first floor extension on we said we’ll have some of that.
Actually they wouldn’t have got permission if we hadn’t extended ours as well.

At the time I said I don’t want a upvc door like everyone else.  After much eyebrow raising and sucking in of lips and shaking of  heads by the builders and joiners they agreed to fit what was once an interior hall door as a front exterior door.  It won’t last they said.  Well sorry to prove you wrong boys but 12 years later and it’s still on and hasn’t warped or let in water once.

Since the build we’ve never put a lick of paint anywhere and now we can no longer close our eyes to the dirty walls anymore so we’ve taken the bull by the horns and called the decorator in.

The wall of flowers is going,  well most of it anyway I’ll just keep a few.  I’ve going back to wallpaper.  Your toes might curl up when I tell you it’s got rabbits and hedgehogs on.  You’ll have to wait for the reveal to find out I haven’t gone soft in the head.

The hallway is getting a makeover with a tartan paper and new carpeting for the stairs.

The en-suite bathroom is also going to be having a few rabbits and hedgehogs running around.  Looks like they’ve started chasing the ducks already

And so it begins.
Hope you’ll pop back for the after shots.
It’s took a while for us to get round to it, not wanting the hassle if it.  But now it’s getting very exciting

See you soon

  1. Hi Lynn, looks like you're taking on a complete makeover there. I love your house. We live in a 1950's semi ourselves though the style of it is slightly older due to the slow building that took place but that's another story. Your front door is a beauty, I will show you mine sometime and you will realise why I love yours so much. Look forward to seeing the new wallpaper too. Sending big hugs, Angela xXx

  2. You are in for a treat when the makeover is complete, but I suspect there will be some frustration before it's completed. I wish you tones of luck and patience while your home is disrupted. LOVE THAT DOOR.

I'm not a fan of wallpaper. I've stripped enough of it (the very old, very stuck on kind) that I never want to see it again. I'm just glad my latest house came with white walls and I was able to decorate around them.

Have a super Friday and great weekend, too, dear Lynn.

  3. Your door is beautiful. I'm glad you stood your ground. Look at it now. And now a total make-over. I am one of those that takes a deep breath when I hear rabbits and hedgehog wall paper, but lets wait and see. It will be lovely I'm sure.
It's nice that you are having it done, that takes the pressure off. It will still be a mess, but you can just go out and ignore it until it is finished. I can't wait to see what it is going to look like.
    Have a great weekend,
    Lisca

  4. Sorry I'm so late calling round today....this is the first break I've had time to get on the cumputer today cos I've had so many customers disturbing me [and I still have one to come before I finish at 5!]. I love to be kept busy but there are limits lol
Really hope the decorating goes well...can't wait to see the after pics.
    Hugs,

  5. Having seen your lovely house I'm already excited about the makeover. The woodland wallpaper sounds fantastic! How lovely to have someone come and decorate for you, too.
When we sold our last house an hour after it went on the market the lady who bought it said it was because it was the only house on the street with a wooden front door and original sash windows. xxx

  6. I think it is wonderful when you can create a new home (with changing the colors and decor) and still stay in the home that you love and cherish. Our homes become a part of us and how we live; they hold so many memories of family, events and love. I'm looking forward to seeing your changes:)
    Have fun!

  7. I'm loving your front door! Well done on persevering with your original plan! Dove Cottage must be the only house in our street which still has its original wooden front door and sash window. We refuse to have them replaced by upvc horrors! Can't wait to see the results of the redecorating adventures! xxx

  8. I can't wait to see the rabbits and hedgehogs. I'd be happy to have them bouncing around my house. Well done for sticking to your guns. That door is llovely. What an upheaval while it is all being done but I am sure it will be worth it. Kate x
