Saturday I went to visit the Peoples Art Exhibition at Touchstones Rochdale.
I went with blog friend Lyn from over the hills in Yorkshire.
Lyn stopped by for a visit to my studio and then we went for lunch in the Cafe at Touchstones before having a look round the exhibition.
I see a few of my Doodly Bird products have flown off the shelves in the fantastic Tourist Information Centre that is in the same building.

Talking about buildings I took a shot of this shop while I was in London and on the same day I read a piece in the Telegraph about how all shops now look the same and there are no individual character shops. I thought how ironic that I should have photographed this original 1830's Umbrella makers and repairers. I am going to be looking out now for more of the same. I bet I dont find many. I did see a Beltmakers shop near the British Museum and said to hubby there won't be many of them around.
Lovely stain glass windows in Touchstones
Lyn brought me this beautiful house plant as a gift. The flower is so unusual
I will be writing more about what we saw tomorrow.
Thanks for a lovely fun filled day Lyn

I agree Lynn, not many buildings stand out anymore.Love this character building!
ReplyDeleteI will be keeping my camera at the ready for more interesting shops.
DeleteHi Lynn, I actually bought an umbrella at Smiths, how fun is that to see a picture of the shop, all these years later! Your photos are beautiful, as ever. Crafty hugs, Anne x
ReplyDeleteWhen I go to London again in February I am going to actually go in the Umbrella shop. It looks wonderful.
DeleteWonderful pictures Lynn. that told umbrella shop looks fascinating. My town has lots of old buildings but they are just shells of what they were, many of the fronts have been 'modernised'. Such a shame that laces have to lose character in order to be deemed 'up to date'. I do hope you go into that shop in Feb and tell us all about it it's interior. Is it modern or still 'as was'.
ReplyDeleteThat flower is beautiful, what a stunning shade of pink. :0) xxx
Sorry this is late reply Lynn but we have had such a busy half term. I loved our day together and boy did we talk! I went home from your lovely house and the exhibition and being with you, so inspired so thank you very much!
