Hello 2023, let’s be having ya !

Happy new year from the hills of Whitworth

I always thought I’d get through life without making a Christmas
dinner, but at 67 I’ve been caught out.  Mum is 90 now and decided
she didn’t want to do it anymore.  I’ve told my sister it’s her turn
next year or we are going out.

I had a lovely gift from goddaughter Amy, she is taking me
to Manchester Cathedral to see Swan Lake by candlelight.

Back in the studio I’m all tidied and ready for 2023 projects.

I’ll finish off stripping the cork wall in preparation this week.

A friend bought me a bag of assorted wool off cuts and a
metal frame to make a rag wreath

There’s new pens and a notebook for a Masterclass I’m
doing called Essence Of Identity.

One of the modules asked us to do a self portrait. I nearly
had kittens thinking I’d have to paint a picture of myself

On closer inspection, it actually meant to put together
images or objects that showed who I am.

So here’s my little vintage writing case filled with things
that represent what I’m drawn to creatively.

Hope everyone is well over at

It’s nice to be back.  We’ve lots of plans for this year.
There’s a trip to the cinema to see the Whitney Houston story
this afternoon and a meal out with friends on Saturday.

Have a good week and thanks for visiting

Lynn
xx

  1. Happy New Year, my lovely friend! What a nice surprise to see a blog post from you. I love the idea of putting together objects that represent what you're drawn to ...I'd like to try that (I wonder if Brad Pitt would fit into a suitcase?)
Enjoy the cinema and your meal out. Liz is coming round in a bit, her brother's a detectorist and wants to dig up the garden. I might be a millionaire next time we speak! xxxx

  2. Your home is always rich with colour. Hope you enjoy the ballet too. My mother is 94 so I understand how things are. She didn't eat so much but we made Christmas dinner anyway which was nice for her. Since then she's had a few visitors which has also cheered her up. Have a lovely New Year woyww. Hugs Angela x10x

  3. Happy New Year to you too Lynn. I'm in ooh and aawe over your sight from your window ánd your craftroom... that closet with all the little drawers, wowzah! Your self portrait is marvelous, and it inspires me to 'draw with the sewing machine' more... it's been a long time since I did that and those stitches really add something to the image. 4. Happy New Year Lynn - here’s to a better year for us both! I love the rag wreath, that must have been a simple but satisfying project to make, it looks really great as does the suitcase that represents your crafty tastes. Your newly cleared cork wall looks primed and ready for being filled up with new projects.
And Let’s Be Having You made me laugh out loud, I think we both have to channel our inner Delia this year, lol!

  5. Loved the self portrait and your collection in the writing case. We went to see Whitney last week - I wonder what you thought? We have also seen The Banshees of Inisherin and A man called Otto recently - all worth seeing I think... Happy New Year and WOYWW! Susan #4

  8. What a lovely post, and I am secretly quite envious of you for avoiding Christmas dinner for 67 years!! Went to see the Whitney movie on Tuesday and enjoyed it very much - well the music was great, who wouldn't? - but felt it was still fairly superficial. Her voice gives me shivers though, such a waste. Happy New Year, have a great week, love n hugs Cindyxx #11

  9. Lovely to see you Lynn. The rag wreath is gorgeous and it sounds like you are enjoying making plans for 2023....keep up the good work. I will be a while before there's any bunting finished off but I will bear you in mind when it is....thanks for that.

  10. Such a delicious eclectic mix of offerings this week Lynn. My mum has also decided that Christmas dinner is too much and we had a quiet dinner for 5 this year. Celebrated her birthday in style together though. Stay safe and Happy WOYWW. Sarah #1

  11. Well, you did well reaching 67 and not cooking a Christmas Dinner. Now that it is just the two of us we shared the cooking this year.
Love all the things you have made, especially that garland.

  12. Happy New Year, Lynn and Philip and what a treat to see your post pop up!
Love the idea of the writing case filled with things that represent you. I'd have kittens if I had to paint a picture of myself too, as I can't draw or paint for toffee :-)
And oh my doesn't your studio look all neat and tidy? xxx

  16. So lovely to see you Lyn. I totally get what you’ve had to go through with Christmas dinner, I’ve taken it on from Ma in Law, there’s always eleven of us! The master class sounds wonderful and I’ve rummaged through your little suitcase and think it speaks volumes of your creativity. I can’t wait!

  17. Blast! I think I forgot to stop the page loading before typing my comment. It might have been eaten or it might have gone thru unfinished. Ah well. Love the class concept, the table is stunning, and your wreath just lovely. That will have to do!
HAPPY NEW YEAR and (late) HAPPY WOYWW! May it be a great one for us all.
