Never to old to stop learning

Look away from the screen now if you are a chocoholic as
this will not do your teeth or waistline any good.
They are made in Yorkshire and are delicious.
I found them in my favourite browsing shop

As kids Mum would always buy us a comic or a toy after a
visit to the dentist. Well we had to have some
sort of treat after our vaccine jab.

Oh yes, I’m supposed to reporting on what’s on my desk.

Well surprise surprise there is something on it.

I’ve started an online textile course

The first assignment was constructing, deconstructing
and reconstructing a piece of striped fabric
into different patterns.

After a shaky start,  thinking I’d dropped a clanger
signing up, I got into my stride and now I’m fired up
for doing more.

The course is NO RULES PATCHWORK with
Textile Designer Jayne Emerson.

It’s been good to revisit some of my old art books

I’ve not looked to far forward into the course as I
might frighten myself witless.

In the meantime it’s keeping me out of mischief.

Can’t hang about this morning as it’s market day.
So I’ll pop back later and visit your desks.

Take care
Lynn

  4. Morning Lynn. Well done on having the courage to really get going with the online course! It takes courage to put the fabric together, then cut it all up and put it back together again! It's scary!! I even had to learn about leaving raw edges. EEK!!! - anathema, freaky, awful - were just some of the words I used at the time (Can't print the rest!)
    Take care. God bless.

  5. I had to look with one eye at the chocolate as I always give it up for Lent but a well deserved treat for yourselves, as is the course. I know how they can be a little scary but you've made a grand start Lynn, always lovely to see the end product. Best wishes this WoywW Tracey #4

  7. Love you´re quilt-work! I think it ca. be scary but it also seems fun and relaxing to do. And vaccinated!...wow....for us "over 60 people :-)" in the Netherlands it will take a long time I´m afraid...perhaps in Autumn...or Winter. Love you´re treat...we better have a pre-vaccinate-treat ;-) Have a nice week!

  8. No rules patchwork sounds awesome! I like what you did with the stripes even if it does make my eyes go a bit funny!! Quite right for having a treat after your jabs too, that choccy looks yum.

  9. That does look like fun! I think it's great to do a course that is delivered rather than go at your own pace - I have a tendency to sign up for a lot of those and not even start them. That choccy looks yummy. Stay safe and keep smiling, Lisa-Jane #14

  11. I’m really late in the day doing my visits this week...I’ve just crawled out from under a pile of Memory bears.
I’m really loving how your striped fabric is changing. Looks like a fun course.

  12. Of course you needed a treat after your vaccine jabs, although those chocolate bars look far too good to eat. Those wrappers are gorgeous!
Your first No Rules Patchwork assignment looks amazing, although it's making me all googly eyed :-) xxx

  13. Interesting looking chocolate - see how I home in on sweet stuff.
Like the look of the course - I remember doing something once and someone wanted her piece to be construct/deconstruct/construct - I had not a clue! Now I know and yours is perfect. (btw it was decorating a Spirella corset). I hope you carry on enjoying your course as much as you enjoy visiting the market.
    Hugs, Neet 21 xx.

  14. Very interesting deconstruction/construction exercise - all the stripes remind me of the Gee's Bend Quilters. I'll really look forward to seeing more as you move thru the course!

Oh no! I'm late for WOYWW!

  16. I'm fascinated by that patchwork, what a wonderful course to undertake. I don't really do chocolate but those wrappers are so beautiful I think I'd be tempted!
Hope you had a lovely trip out! xxx

  19. That chocolate looks really posh, Lynn! You are the second person this week who is deconstructing and reconstructing - something I find fascinating. Well done starting the textile course. I love the final photo of you off to market, with your gorgeous old-fashioned style smocked dress and cardigan, and the covered basked! Your blog always has such a delightfully vintage look and the colours always float my boat.

    Happy belated WOYWW,

  20. I swear it s because we see a vague end in sight and suddenly need to have something to show for it! I had my jab yesterday and found that a cuppa and some chocolate were exactly what I needed, perhaps it’s a genuine side effect! Gorgeous wrapping on that choc, flavours are a bit iffy for me. But, any port in a storm!! Don’t page through the workshop, take it as it comes. You might have a moment of shake but it will pass, but if you look through it, you’ll pre judge it and your ability and it’ll just become a very big-paid-for hump in your road!

    1. Thanks Julia that’s good advice to not page through the workshop. Far better for me to make notes and revisit the module I’m working on so it sinks in. I’m not the quickest on the uptake but I’m quite persistent. Hope you feel ok after your jab xx
