My 65th pared down birthday celebrations are coming to a close as we get ready for the arrival this weekend of my sister who lives in Witney, Oxford and haven’t seen since Christmas.
After looking round a few places for new sofas we have decided to have ours reupholstered again. The last time was 15 years ago and we’ve actually had them 25 years. They originally were made by a company called Lakeland in Blackburn, Lancashire.
All the new stuff we looked at was either to big or boring, so we are going full tilt and having them recovered in a Persian Kilim pattern.
This time the fabric is coming from Halifax in Yorkshire and the work done by Raj Upholstery in Waterfoot, Rawtenstall. A local independent company established in 1985 just up the road from us.

Here’s our neighbours old horse waiting for Storm Francis to roll in overnight. Don’t think there’ll be much walking over
the moors Tuesday or Wednesday going off the forecast.
We are so lucky to have all this outside our front gate
Look at this lovely commissioned piece my friend Pat gave
me for my birthday. It’s by Catherine Daniels Ceramics.
Isn’t it lovely.
Sorry it’s so higgledy piggledy I’ve lost my storytelling stride a bit. Hope everyone is safe.
Remember it’s ok to make your own headlines, you don’t have to listen to the scaremongering every minute of the day.
See ya soon
Love
Lynn

I think the sofas will look lovely in the Klim. Also don't you just love those words, Higgledy, Piggledy. Must look up the origin.
ReplyDeleteFingers crossed for the sofas. It’s always a gamble when you can’t see them full size .
DeleteHeehee yes I love any words or phrases that are a bit quirky
That's exactly what I'd do, too! I've been eyeing up a really groovy Habitat sofa in the chazza (in an unfortunate shade of beige) for a couple of weeks and am tempted to buy a couple of secondhand kilims from that eBay trader I told you about and do it myself but having a hard time convincing Jon!
ReplyDeleteLove the horse photo, that should be framed.
I'm excited that you'll be seeing your sister and love the little ceramic Lynn!

Omg you won’t believe what’s happened. I took the photo of Frank’s old horse on Sunday and she’s collapsed today. It’s hit and miss whether she survives. I’ve printed the photo off and given it them.
DeleteThere’s enough gone on here this morning to warrant a blog post haha xxx
Oh no! I'm sorry about the poor horse. xxx
DeleteGreat decision on the sofas because they are a lovely shape. I've been trawling sofa websites too and all the ones I like are far too big for my tiny room so might just go with new covers as well. I have that book 'The Sewing Machine' in paperback but haven't got round to reading it yet. It's great when you finally meet up with sisters after such a long gap. Loving the ceramic version of you. Such clever folk that you know.x
ReplyDeleteKeeping fingers and toes crossed that the sofas look ok once reupholstered. It’s a gamble for sure. As kids my mum had hers done and she hated it (gulp)
DeleteIt's a great idea to have your sofa re-upholstered if you still love the shape of it and if it's still in good nick. I bet it will look absolutely divine in that Persian Kilim pattern fabric. Your friend's present actually looks like you, Lynn, but then I guess that was the idea! I love the nag photo, but was sad to read your reply to Vix's comment. I'm keeping my fingers crossed! You must be really excited that your sister is coming over! Hope you're having a wonderful time. And you are so right: it's better to make your own headlines. xxx
ReplyDeleteThe poor horse died Ann. It was 28 years old. Still very sad for its owner.
DeleteJill arrives on Saturday and we are hoping that mum will go back down to Oxford with her. I’ve got a feeling she won’t go. More tales of the sofas to follow xxx
