Lockdown Diary - someone turn the heat up

Can somebody tell July that it’s summer please.  I’ve had to resort to a woolly frock, opaque tights and Chelsea boots today for a drive out with Mum.

The bag is one I made some time ago from a tapestry, a piece of hessian and some gingham.

Another day, another outfit.

Layering up my £4 Wallis charity shop frock with a full length vintage petticoat and wardrobe staple grey cardi.
My fabulous basket was a gift from friend Vix.   I get such a lot of great comments when I use it.

As the library still isn’t open I’ve visited Mr Amazon again to get Rachel Joyce’s new book ‘Miss Benson’s Beetle’.

My bestie spotted a review in a magazine and thought it was worth a read.

Joyce has written several books which have been translated into 36 languages and two are in development for film.

Other titles are :
The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry.
The Love Song of Miss Queenie Hennessy.
A Snow Garden and other stories.
The Music Shop.

Not really night time reading but I’ve dived into this book.  I don’t know where my fascination for mudlarking and beachcombing comes from, other than playing in the river and picking broken crockery out of the embankment during long hot summer holidays from school.

One thing that is disturbing in the book is the information on  the effect of plastics on seabirds.  By 2050, it is estimated that 99% of all seabirds will have plastic in their gut. It’s predicted that by weight there will be more plastic than fish in the sea. That’s quite disturbing.

I’m getting into a real blogging stride now and loving writing in my journal as well.  I’ll be running into a second one before long.

During the week I’ll be  back with another home art gallery tour and a post about a very special dress.

Until next time, it’s still important to stay safe.
Don’t forget to wear  your mask.

  2. I love a good bag. I appreciate a good handmade one, not those tacky plastic ones. That teenagers love. I have sent 5 bags to work with Paul the boss smiled. He knows I only send quality.

    1. It’s good to here you are slowly improving, even if you are rattling. A day at a time is a step nearer.
I’ve been reading different authors to what I normally read and I’ve enjoyed them. Hope the library opens soon, I miss it

  3. I was in strappy maxi yesterday, my shoulders were sizzling when the sun came out! I think you've got some sunshine on the way, you might be able to get those tights off by the weekend!
    That bag is so sweet!
I really enjoyed the Harold Fry & Queenie Hennessy books, we bought them from a chazza last year and read them on the beach in Corfu. xxx

    1. We were going to have a drive out to St. Anne’s today bit guess what it’s lashing down again, so we will try again tomorrow.
I’ll put those books on my library list if I like this one.
Philip’s mum’s birthday was St. Swithins day and it’s said that if it rains on that day it will rain for 40 days and nights after. Guess she did it again this year haha xxx

  4. Much as I love that first dress, now shouldn't be the time to wear a woolly frock, opaques and boots indeed! We've had a couple of warm-ish days, but often accompanied by a dull sky with hardly any sunshine. July should get here skates on, though preferably not literally :-) That bag you made is gorgeous and the basket bag gifted by Vix is almost identical to one of mine! xxx

  5. Hello Lynn! I live in the US in the state of Washington. I love following your and Vintage Vix's blogs. They are like a breath of fresh air! Love the photos and history ya'll post of your country and homes. I grew up a "military brat" and lived in Germany for 3 years as a child, but never got to tour the U.K. Love all your art work and Vintage clothing. Your outdoor sets for your friends, neighbors, and children are so creative and thoughtful during this horrid coronavirus time. So cheery and happy! Looking forward to your next post! Back to the garden to pick veg's for dinner. Oh...we say breakfast lunch dinner. When I lived in the south it was breakfast lunch supper! I am tea drinker all day!! Gotta have my tea!!
