"No don't do it " said I "things are not that bad"
It was the wandering welder's birthday today and I persuaded him to take a day off.
So off we went to the market town of Bury in Lancashire, famous for its black puddings and a 20 minute drive from where we live
First stop was the Art gallery. In their permanent collection we saw this scarf by the very flamboyant ceramicist Grayson Perry who we saw earlier this year in a one man show at the Lowry in Manchester
I was quite taken with this old enamel plate of artist
Paul Scott. He has screen printed a very modern day scene onto it
And the mark making on this next piece appealed to the Textile side of me.
We will definitely paying another visit, especially as they have a very nice inexpensive cafe where the ladies are dressed in the costume of Victorian maids of long black dresses and starched white pinnys.
To finish our day off we snapped up a man's Harris Tweed jacket for £10 and then went on to the beautiful countryside restaurant The Pavilion at Birtle for a late lunch before ending the day with Philip's twin sister and family
