My 50p charity shop scarf turned up a good story today when Instagram friend
Bridget Maxine, who knits beautifully, saw it and told me she was wearing one herself.
Apparently it is called a "Hitchhikers Scarf" because it has 42 zigzag teeth and according to Douglas Adams in Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, 42 is the perfect number and the meaning of the galaxy.
It also comes from the pattern design of Martina Behm on Ravelry a free website for knitters & crotcheters. You have to sign up as a member to access it but if you just want to see some of Martina's designs here's a link to her Pinterest site
I told Bridget she was the font of all knowledge when she told me to try Googling the word Trachten and I would find out more about this little number I picked up at Judy's Affordable Vintage on Saturday in Cumbria
Its a Dirndl dress (German/Bavarian) and you are meant to wear it with your bangers hanging out, which of course I will not be doing as I haven't got enough scaffolding for my mahoosive pair to hold them up, so I will content myself with a stripy top underneath.
I've got some more stuff to blog about our weekend away but that will have to wait till tomorrow.
Love Lynn x
Well you know what they say, if you've got it, flaunt it! That dirndl looks fab on you - you need a couple of foaming pints of ale - I know someone would be very appreciative if you did! xxx
ReplyDeleteLove the dirndl dress and it's fab with the striped top, I like it much better than wearing a dirndl the traditional way, which can look a bit costumy. They seem to be popular vintage attire lately, as I often come across dirndls (if I type that word one more time, my fingers will be in knots!) in vintage shops here. xxx
