After a workshop was cancelled in Nottingham, we took the opportunity to make our first trip of the year to our caravan in the Lake District. It’s 27 years old now, we’ve had it 17 years and although its blumming cold at night in it, it’s still a wonderful peaceful place to be. Lots of birdsong, deer roaming round and nature at its finest.
A visit to Grange Over Sands wouldn’t be the same without lunch in our favourite family run hotel, Clare House.
Even though it’s literally 15 minutes away from our caravan we often treat ourselves to an overnight stay. Later this year we are booked in with friends to celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary and my 70th birthday. How did I get to that age so fast .
Back home Philip set to repairing the rotten fascia boards on the garage and I got stuck into tidying the garden and planting up a wall climber I bought last year. Isn’t it good when you can start having your windows and doors open and hanging your washing on the line again.
Our No Rules Textile Society have been looking at Texture as a project this month and one of our members led a mindful meditation during a zoom meeting. It was so calming.
As well as layering up fabrics and lace, I’ve been experimenting with tissue paper and dress paper patterns.
Adding a fine layer of olive oil (any oil will do) by rubbing it over my hands first I then gently screwed up the paper, straightened it again several times until it had a fabric feel to it. Once dried I machine stitched into it and tore some pieces back. It’s difficult to get back into crafting when the suns out and you’re pulled to be outside.

Plus we’ve done quite a lot of socialising. Well what’s retirement for, if not for seeing friends and shows haha.

We went to a local theatre who were staging an adaptation of Bill Bryson’s “Notes From. Small Island”. It was brilliantly funny and insightful to see how the UK has changed over the years.
Tuesday afternoon I went to the cinema with mum and my sister to see the musical SIX about Henry Vlll wives. Honestly it was genius and if you get a chance to see this recording of the live London show, don’t miss it. It’s so good I’m going again on Saturday afternoon with hubby Philip. After which we will be going to friends for a chippy tea, followed by salted Caramel Vienetta (we’ve just discovered it in the shops). We know how to live up north.
If you’re still with me thanks for following along. There’s plenty more to come this month, a trip aboard the Northern Belle train next week, a visit to Stockport Vintage Fair on Sunday, Monday afternoon at the Polished Knob pub in Todmorden where there’s live music and dancing. Who knew that Mondays could be that lively. A visit to the Royal Exchange Theatre in Manchester to see Abigail’s Party. An 80th birthday party and of course Wednesday afternoons are all about Philip’s stint on the radio. Oldham community radio 99.7fm 1pm-2pm Phil’s Country Music Highway.
Thanks for tuning in folks to my ramblings. I’ll be back with more soon.

Well, you certainly made up for the missing posts over time. What a wonderful catch up this has been. The hotel (Clare House) looks wonderful, as does your caravan park with deer wandering about. How marvellous that must be. We just have pheasants making awful squawks and an owl hooting away by us at night.
ReplyDeleteLove the idea of the oil on the tissue - must give that one a try, I like a good scrunch.
Hugs, Neet 7 xx
It's great to see you again. I am so in love with the hotel, just my sort of place. I'm not into the modern look if anything I could be part Bohemian. The weather's been lovely here too. Funny thing the felting fungi club I belong too had a Zoom meeting yesterday, it was lovely. Have a good woyww. Hugs Angela x9x
ReplyDeleteI love it when there's a link from you, there's always so much to read about ! I can see why you love that hotel. Your lacy projects are fab . Happy woyww Helen #1
ReplyDeleteMy goodness, you do know how to live! So many things to do, places to go, about the opposite of my life! Your Caravan looks like heaven on earth! I love a cold night, more opportrunity to warm up and get cozy! Have a wonderful 70th birthday, and enjoy your stay at that fabulous house! Have a wonderful week, Lindart #17
ReplyDeleteLovely post Lynn. We saw Six live at our theatre- it was indeed brilliant and so clever. I loved the costumes I remember reading the Bill Bryson books and certainly loved this one. What beautiful photos of your garden and trips out. We are so blessed with his wonderful weather.x x Jo 🌈
ReplyDeleteWould love to see Notes from a Small Island, we are both fans. And I’d love to be able to tune in to Phil’s radio show, again, Bart and I are country fans so it would be a pleasure. Your first trip to the Lakes looks Enid Blyton perfect to me, and your garden makes me swoon- isn’t it big! Yikes! live to read about your months, the oil on the tissue paper is a great trick, it actually looks like printed grease Leo of now don’t you think?
ReplyDeletePrinted GREASE PROOF. Nothing to do with Leo. Sorry!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely round-up of what you've been up to lately, Lynn.
ReplyDeleteI loved Bill Bryson's Notes from a Small Island, I'd no idea there was a stage adaptation. Sending love from us both! xxx
We have seen the musical Six twice but here in Melbourne! It is brilliant - and the fact that it was originally written as a student production.
ReplyDeleteLoved reading your super record of the past few days and enjoyed the photos!
Happy WOYWW! Susan #6
Keep on rambling Lynn - always enjoy catching up with your doings. I keep meaning to see SIX so must try the film version. Stay safe and Happy WOYWW. Sarah
ReplyDeleteA lovely post, Lynn. I adore your texture experiments, but what struck me most was the joy that there’s a production of Notes from a Small Island. It’s such a brilliant book and I can just imagine the slapstick of him returning drunk to the hotel in Liverpool!
ReplyDeleteHave a good week - it certainly sounds full of fun projects

WOW amazing hotel thanks for sharing. Hugs Bj#12
ReplyDeleteIt's certainly all go round yours, Lynn! It's great to see you're still enjoying the caravan and treating yourself to a night at that glorious hotel with the stunning hallway!
ReplyDeleteMy Dad loved Bill Bryson, I bet that play was fascinating! That's funny about Six, we saw the trailer, looked at each and said "What the hell is that?" simultaneously, we thought it was some Disney nonsense! xxx
Goodness. You have been everywhere and done it all this week. The hotel looks stunning - that entryway is amazing - and your garden looks lovely too. About the only thing I miss about pandemic times was the theatre streaming on YouTube. I saw a few fab shows I would not have otherwise been able to, and Six does look interesting so maybe seeing a filmed version is a reasonable substitute. I do miss living in the Barbican and easy access to all sorts of live theatre.
ReplyDeletePoppy relapsed so a very very late Happy WOYWW!
