Behind the garden gate & What’s On Your Workdesk Wednesday

Behind the garden gate this week we have
Doggy Day Care.

It’s been quite funny seeing not just the children running up for a look but the dogs as well, trying to weigh up if they are real and wanting a dog treat.

Some of you might remember I lost my lovely Auntie Gladys recently - here I am donning her spotty frock with my charity shop find cardigan and dip dyed skirt.  I think she might have raised an eyebrow then come out with some quip or other haha.

Now what to wear today.
Do you remember playing with these as a child.

I know I haven’t shown you anything on my desk yet but I get easily distracted you see.
So this  “flat lay” is on my desk.  I like to mess about laying things out and making little collages, usually starting with one thing that I then link with other things.
The backdrop is a piece of wallpaper, the twig is what set me off, I picked it up on a daily walk. The dolly I cut out of a magazine and the vintage buttons I’ve had for sometime.

It’s a peaceful, meditative thing to do.

Hope you’re all staying home and safe.
Thanks for stopping by and see you next week.

What day is it ?

So on Saturday I found a bit of creative mojo after picking up a stick while out on our walk and then seeing a friends’ Instagram page with a stick she had also picked up on her walk.  She has been doing this daily and then wrapping threads and wools round them, then creating collages.

One of my friends is a nurse working on the frontline and she wanted a headband with buttons to attach the mask to as the elastic is chaffing the back of her ears.  So I took up the challenge and Gail informed me they work a treat so I’m on with the next lot for all her colleagues.

For my free craft Corner outside our front gate I’ve added these little kits for passersby to pick up.
The Teddy Bears picnic display is still loved by young and old as they take their daily walk and next week I’m changing the theme to “Walking The Dog”.

Thanks for joining in last week with “Spill the Beans” it was good fun and how funny that so many of us ate raw sausages as children.  I did have my doubts about vinegar butties though haha.

Stay safe everyone and remember Weebles wobble but they don’t fall down.  So if you’re a bit wobbly don’t worry, we are all the same.

See you next week

Smiling all the way

The rabbits have had to take a back seat this week behind our gate at the house on the hill as there’s been an invasion of teddy bears.

The big guy is welcoming young and old as they huff and puff up the steep country lane.  He hopes they are all enjoying their walk in the sunshine

Meanwhile behind lockdown gate there’s cakes and chocolates being scoffed without any thoughts of getting fat and full of spots or teeth dropping out.

Meanwhile at Craft Corner children have enjoyed a lucky dip of free craft kits, drawing books and crayons.
I’ve had some smiley moments when notes have been pushed through the gate saying how they enjoy passing our house.

Enjoy the sunshine everyone.  Don’t forget to stop and say hello to the teddies if you are passing by.

Spill the beans

Sat at my desk pondering on a post and came up with this.
An Instagram buddy, my good friend Maria threw the gauntlet down and challenged me to tell three things about myself. So here goes.

1.   I answer to the name HILDA.

This comes from my days of working in the motor trade in the late 70’s, and coincidentally where I met the person in the third point about things about me.
As the new girl, going round all the local garages delivering the parts needed for their work, I was constantly asked “what  you called”.   Always being one for a prank, I replied with a deadpan straight face  “Hilda Happibuttie”.  I’ve been called it ever since haha.

2.  I used to eat raw sausages as a child.

Mum would send me to the butchers for 1lb of pork sausages  but the day I ate two on the way home I got my comeuppance.  “Get back to the shop and tell him to weigh them again , there’s never a 1lb there” yelled mum.
The butcher knew what I’d done and laughingly gave me another two and told me not to do it again.

3.  I’ve loved the same man for over 40 years

I first met Philip when I used to deliver parts to the garage he owned at the time in 1978.  I’d been courting with a travel agent for a number of years and thought he was the one, but he dumped me for someone more ladylike.  I think it was my duffle coat and jeans full of oil and battery acid, constant wearing of wellies and having dirty finger nails that did put him off.
Whereas to Philip I was a goddess.. In his eyes anyone who could throw bottles of oxygen and acetylene out of the back of a mini pickup and not be bothered about holding an exhaust pipe up while oil dripped all over her hair, was the lass for him.  Over 40 years later and we are still welded together.
Must thank that fancy pants travel agent for dumping me if I ever see him again.

4.   An added extra -  I used to drink the water out of my hot water bottle as a kid.

Now I’ve only ever met one other person that has owned upto this.  Well it’s not really something that comes up in conversation is it really.

When in bed at night I’d shout down to mum “can I have a drink of water”. The reply was always  “No, get to sleep”.
Hence, rubbery water drinking.

Now if you want to spill the beans, let’s see what secrets you’ve kept to yourself hee hee.

Stay safe

passing of my Auntie Gladys.

These four walls - Days 21 & 22

Friday was a quietish day after the emotional highs and lows of Auntie Gladys send off.

I pottered about in the garden making an Easter display near the front gate for passers by to come and say hello to.

We live on a country lane so I thought I might give folk a little smile with my bit of nonsense.  There’s a book and magazine box and some craft and games for anyone to pick up as they go by.

What’s been so lovely is people have left us daffodils, sticks of rhubarb, tulips and chocolates and today Saturday I found this card and sweet rhyme on top of the books.

Aren’t people kind.  We have so much to be grateful for in these sad times.  Now to make my rhubarb crumble and purée and take a stick down to Mum.

These little fellas won’t last in this house heehee.
We’ve a 1967 Tommy Steele film to watch tonight and vegetable & butter bean soup for tea.
No more cheap red plonk for the wandering welder,  it’s giving him a headache.

If you want a good read have a look at our friends blog.  Jon and Vix are really utilising their time during lockdown.
