Our little tin can in the Lake District

September has sped by and today is the day I get my first full state pension.
It’s also my little sister’s birthday and she is on her way back to Oxford after
spending a week with us and Mum in the Lake District.

Obviously yet again there’s a lack of crafting going on to
show the ladies at WHAT’S ON YOUR WORKDESK WEDNESDAY.

There was a lot of fabulous crafts to see at Prom Art in Grange Over Sands
though. It runs the full length of the promenade. If you ever get up there over summer
this event is on the last Sunday of every month ending In September.  It’s well worth a visit.

I may just have treated myself to this Conker coloured cord jacket
when we visited the little market town of Ulverston.

2x2 is a favourite shop of mine to pop into when we are there.
There’s lots of small independent shops, an indoor market and
nice places for a bit of lunch or a cuppa and its home to the
Laurel & Hardy museum.

We spent a lovely afternoon in Broughton with friends having
lunch and scarecrow spotting

This morning we will be packing up ready for leaving our little tin can
in the lakes.

It’s a beautiful day. Time for breakfast and another cuppa though
before we go.

Have a good crafty week folks.
Sorry if I don’t get round to commenting, I’ll be driving you see.

Take care

Bucking the Lake District dress code

Well here we are again at our tin can in the Lake District.
There’s still plenty of flora and foliage to see on the
caravan park as autumn approaches.

We had a drive out to Hawkshead via the Windermere car ferry.  I should have gone across on a horse it’s only £2.  In the car it was £5.  It was a lovely adventure, even if the sail across did only last two minutes.

This little door made me chuckle with its sign
‘Bend or Bump’

After a walk round the village we had a coffee and cake before setting off back via Newby Bridge.

Now I obviously didn’t get the memo that frocks are not
allowed in Hawkshead or in the Lake District in general.
I was the only person wearing a dress.

Never mind birdwatching, I’m going out frock spotting tomorrow heehee.

I’ll be out with my Cumbrian chum on Monday
and I know full well Maria will be wearing something
pretty and not walking boots and waterproof trousers.

Off to visit the beautiful Holker Hall tomorrow.  It’s over
twenty years since we actually went in the hall and gardens.

Have a lovely weekend

Stop the world while I get off for a bit

I’m not joking when I say this retirement malarkey is taking its toll on me.
Well actually it’s more to do with getting out more now than we did.

Times running away with me and I may have to have a little lockdown of
my own to get myself back on track with my craft projects and other stuff.

The No Rules Textile Society, that I am a member of, are working
on using one piece of fabric and making ten new designs out of it.
The only other fabric being a backing piece.

I’m using this African design cotton that hubby Philip came home
with years ago when he was doing a job at a bleachers and dyers factory.

For this sample I’ve cut circles out of the original material then
chopped them up and appliqued them onto an antique chair back
cover.

At least I’ve made a start.

I got stopped in my tracks on Monday when I had a day out with
my best friend Sue. It was a good excuse to wear the other
dress I bought when visiting my sister in Oxford.

Our outing was to a posh garden centre which sold
everything but the kitchen sink.

I was a bit taken with this display of brushes used as a guide
for outside paint colours.

Look they even had a craft shop

On the home front we are having a bit of a revamp in the kitchen.

We swapped our round kitchen table for this 4’ x 3’ antique pine one
and we are using some old railway sleepers as wall shelves for crockery.
They are being cut, sanded and waxed by the wandering welder as we speak.

Book wise I’m reading these from our local library.

And will be on the look out for author Sebastian Faulks after I seeing him being interviewed
on the telly at the weekend where he read an excerpt from his latest book Snow Country.

He’s not a writer I’ve ever read. Apparently his novel Birdsong was made into a film,
I’ll add it to my list of films for winter days when it’s either to wet or cold to go out.

In the meantime life’s running away with me again this week as we head off back
upto the Lake District and are joined by my mum and sister this time for a few days
of family time.

After that I will be shackling myself to the house and catching up with paperwork,
phone calls, chores and crafting.

Have a good week.  We’ve had some lovely September weather
up here in Lancashire.

Take care

No place like home

A drive out to nearby Rawtenstall in Lancashire and look
at this lovely coat I picked up in Age UK for £6.50

Now I could tell you it’s a designer label but in actual fact it’s
George by Asda.  Hee hee maybe I’ll cut out the label and
pretend it’s a posh one

I picked up a couple of books as well. Mum will enjoy the
Maeve Binchy and the Alan Sugar one is earmarked for a friend.

Thursday morning it was best foot forward for a walk around
Cowm Reservoir, less than five minutes from home.

The weather has been beautiful this week.

Cowm is also home to the waterski school for the disabled

We are lucky living where we do. We have the beautiful
Healey Dell Nature Reserve on our doorstep and can walk
for miles over the moors.

Back home and time for a cup of tea and a piece of homemade cherry and
coconut cake made by friend and neighbour Jan for Philip’s birthday.

After I got to the task of putting up our new door
wreath from my friend Emma’s shop.

Philip planted up the heathers we bought on the way home
from the caravan at the weekend.

Before I go here’s a funny sign friend Anna shared on her Facebook page.
Make mine a “Not Coffee” please.

Have a good weekend.
We’ve a happy event next week, it’s my sister’s birthday and
we are going to spend a few days with her and Mum at the
Lake District.

See you soon

Get a room you two

Oh get a room you two.

We had a lovely long weekend away for our wedding anniversary.
A night in our favourite hotel in Grange over Sands, then three nights
at the caravan.

Thursday we had a drive out to Coniston where the annual Vintage pop up shop
was in full flow and I picked up this lovely basket to use as a travelling craft
case when we are away.

I did a bit of stitching and watched a workshop on the Korean stitching
technique Bojagi, pronounced po-ja-gi.

I’ll be taking part in the workshop when I see the replay of it.
One of the techniques I'm going to have a go at is “pinch stitch”

I took a screenshot of it from the workshop.

Anyone who knows me, knows that there’s not a cat in hell chance of
me changing my 18 year old cyber green VW beetle anytime soon.
However, I would add this beauty to my collection given the chance.
I’ve spotted it several times when we’ve been around Grange over sands
and keep thinking of putting a note on the windscreen asking them to let
me know if they fancy selling it.

I have my suspicions though that it’s owned by a lady who probably
loves it as much as I love mine.

Still not made it to my desk as the wandering welder celebrated his
72nd birthday yesterday (more snogging heehee).

We had a drive out to friend Emma’s gorgeous flower and coffee shop
to buy some flowers for Philip’s twin sister Elena.

Such a beautiful autumnal bouquet, I wanted to keep it for myself.

BAYTREE FLOWERS & COFFEESHOP

Every effort will be made to sit at my desk for longer than the blink
of an eye before next week when we set off again for another stint at
the caravan.  This time we are meeting up with my sister and Mum who
are staying in Grange Over Sands.

Here’s my nod to the cooler weather, it’s a flannel petticoat
under a summer frock.  I’ve not got the opaque tights out yet
I’m hanging on a bit longer to summer.

And here’s what I’m reading now after finishing Claire Fuller’s
Unsettled Ground.  I’m in need of a lighter read.

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY TO US

We are off to the Lake District today for a night away
to celebrate 32 years of marriage plus 10 years of thinking about it first.

How can I have been with you for 42 years Mr Wandering Welder,
I’m not that old.  You must have cradle snatched me. Maybe I
thought he was a sugar daddy heehehee.

Silliness aside through the best and the worst we’ve laughed
and cried and now all these years on we are still laughing.

So I’m not at my desk today ladies of
WHATS ON YOUR WORKDESK WEDNESDAY
as we will be strolling along the prom at Grange Over Sands
recalling our wedding fortnight in Miami and Palm Beach.
