Lockdown Diary - Books, Pumpkins & the pub

Saturday morning arrived with sunshine and a cold wind.  I started a new book on Friday night but it might have to be a daytime read as I kept giggling.  Not good when the wandering welder is trying to nod off.

Mr Postman brought me some of these lovely velvet pumpkins from Instagram/Etsy seller Flossie & Boo.  They are beautifully made.

We wished our lovely friend Angela good luck in her new home by dropping off an afternoon tea tray from Park Farm Tearooms before going onto the carpet shop to hopefully make a final decision on a new carpet for the living room.

Sunday I started the enormous task of clearing the office out.  As we are preparing to wind down and retire from our business of 40 years you can imagine the amount of paperwork there is.

It had to be the pub for tea, we felt we deserved it and also our local hostelry needs our support and have worked hard to keep things as normal as possible during these trying times.  Apart from everyone having to wear masks entering or leaving the pub it was very relaxed and the food was as fantastic as always.

Well let’s see what this week brings us.  Here in Lancashire we are in local lockdown and are not allowed to visit other folks houses and gardens again or mix with other households.  As long as we all keep well, do our own risk assessments and get through this it’s a small price to pay.

We are weighing things up

Me and my friend Jan have weighed up it’s time to ditch the sweeties before our teeth drop out and the elastic holding our  trousers together snaps.

So we’ve dragged out the scales of shame, made some pretty cards to record our progress and organised our menus for the week.

I don’t do dieting, wouldn’t know a calorie or sin if I fell over it. So I’m knocking off the cakes, biscuits and sweeties for a bit and revisiting my lovely cook books, like this Sally Bee one I got for £1.75 in a charity shop.

We always eat well at meal times anyway, it’s all the other stuff that’s caused the weight gain.  I’m up a dress size, my bra is sticking in me and I’ve got heartburn with all the fats.

When the wandering welder came home with these, after helping a friend with her house move, I had to tell myself they tasted of dog pooh to stop me diving right in.

Here’s my chuckle for Annie’s Friday Smiles.

This one reminds me of the wandering welder.  He’s a Virgo you know and likes to get to the bottom of things and be thorough.

Have a good weekend everyone and take good care of yourselves.

Lockdown Diary - the potty painter

If this is what he’s going to be doing during retirement I think I better get the insurance policies dusted off.  The man is a maniac.  The wandering welder has now turned into the potty painter.

He’s at the top of the house painting the rendering.  Mad as a box of frogs.  Get down you loony said I.

Can’t quite reach this last bit.  I’ll have to do it from the inside, said he.  Then I got a right eyeful.

Well he’s certainly cheered my weekend up.  I couldn’t stop laughing.

New covid restrictions or not I’m keeping my distance from that sight heehee.

Stay safe everyone and please wear a mask if you can.

Birthday boy and a bit of quirkiness

hi
The wandering welder’s birthday celebrations started on Sunday with a posh lunch at our favourite family run hotel, Clare House at Grange Over Sands.

It may look like we had the place to ourselves but within minutes of us arriving the dining room filled up. I love the relaxed elegance of this place and the food is always special.

Monday was the big day and Philip had a morning opening his presents and cards before we went off to see friend Maria in Ulverston.

Here we are at Coniston keeping socially distanced.

The cheeky welder hasn’t lost his charm with the ladies even at 71.

The sun shone and the scenery was beautiful

As we hadn’t booked anywhere for lunch we struggled to find somewhere to eat so headed back to Ulverston after visiting the summer Coniston Vintage Shop held every year in the village hall.

We had a lovely lunch in the quirky Fourpemce Tearoom, owned by Sam & Jane who are great hosts.

Honestly, you can’t stop looking round, it’s rammed with antiques, their own homemade oils, vinegars and dressings. They even make their own cloudy lemonade.

See that lamp, well that came home with us for the living room. It could help us decide which way we are going colour-wise with the new carpet.

Talking of colour, don’t you just love the painted houses of Ulverston.

While the sun keeps shining we may just stay another day at the caravan and pretend the world is still a peaceful place and things are normal.

Thanks for popping by.
Stay safe.
