Sneaking in the back door

Hello, I'm ringing in to say that I am sorry there won't be

much to see on the desk this week but we've been away for a few days.

However, I have finished the back of the waistcoat I'm knitting. Just one side to do now.

To make up for the lack of work I thought this new book might interest some readers.

Even if fabric is not your thing a lot of the techniques could be applied to papercrafting.

Then seeking inspiration from the creation box I worked from last week

I thought how about covering this polystyrene ball (it periodically appears on 

my desk awaiting an idea for use) with cut flowered fabrics and ribbons to make a pretty hanging.

So when I've finished unpacking and washing and all the boring office stuff

I can get cracking.

WHAT'S ON YOUR WORKDESK

Centre stage to the welder

Centre stage this weekend had to go to the 

wandering welder in his dapper chap mode.

No he is not yodelling in the mountains of Switzerland or some such place

we were in fact in Keswick in the Lake District.

I'm very proud of him as he looks a million dollars and is 

in fact wearing about £40 worth of clobber.

The jacket and trousers came from Vintage Fairs and 

his shirt, tie, boots and waistcoat came from the charity shops.

Here he is again in the gardens of the Pheasant Inn at Bassenthwaite

were we stayed for two nights before moving down to Grange Over Sands

to open the caravan for the season.

I can't let you go without seeing this vintage knitted waistcoat that I am 

sharing with the welder.  He found it in a vintage shop but I got first dabs on wearing it.

I picked up this Traidcraft basket for £4, it still had its original price tag of £22

on it.  The skirt was sent to me by an Instagram friend and is made from a curtain.

These two embroidered cushion covers jumped into my basket 

at a whopping price of £2.49 for the two.

A great weekend was had by all and included a comedy play by Sandy Toskvig

"Silver Lining" at The Theatre by the Lake at Keswick.

Afternoon tea at The Pheasant Inn where we stayed in Bassenthwaite

Then finished off with a lazy day in the sunshine sat outside our caravan.

This hour of mine on my desk

Do you remember this lovely project box arriving last week

from THE LINEN GARDEN 

It was filled with treasures and ideas to give yourself permission

to spend time being creative and has the appropriate name

"This Hour Of Mine"

After fiffing and faffing with the beautiful contents for ages,

all of which had a delightful floral scent of hawthorn and briar which I got 

a bit hooked on, I set to thinking what I could create.

The fabric pieces had bondaweb on the back to make cutting 

out the flower shapes easier, so I set off doing that

Next I did a line of running stitch up the length of a piece of ribbon and 

pulled it into the shape of a flower and adding the cut out shapes

and bits of lace

I ironed pieces of the bondaweb backed fabrics to this 

little clipboard and built up a collage of ribbons and laces on top

I ironed some of the cut out flowers to a bottle vase, stuck it onto the board

and added the little embroidery that a friend sent me

And here it is up on the wall in my workspace

A peep in my wardrobe

After so many lovely comments about my clobber over on Instagram I thought I'd put a few photo's together of how I make it all work.

 Mostly it is all  bought from charity shops, vintage fairs or made from old curtains
