What's on my workdesk today .......

I've got a few things to show you this week starting with this bracelet I am making after attending a workshop in Todmorden, Yorkshire at
Next up are the two Doodly Bird Compacts for a customer.
Followed by this vintage knitting pattern I picked up at Victoria Baths, Manchester on Sunday at the Vintage Home Show
These are not on my desk but they will soon be on my bed when Helen of www.helencrochet1.wordpress.com  has finished my crocheted blanket.
Last but by no means least, something very special.
This lovely Prayer Flag from my Scottish friend Mo.  It is a flag of peace that she made as part of a swap we are doing.  Included in the parcel you can see lots of goodies to inspire some collage work in my new sketchbook.
Which leads me finally on to say the new SKETCHBOOK FRIENDS blog I started last week is building up its own little community of creative people.  Some have created books/journals before and some are pure beginners.  Have a look, you might like it.

Back over to Julia now to see whats happening on some more desks.

Vintage Home Show, Manchester

I returned to the fantastic VICTORIA BATHS in Manchester on Sunday, this time to a VINTAGE HOME event
It was equally as exciting as the Vintage Clothes one I went to previously.
Blog page link
How is it these places have such a magic atmosphere with so many interesting people.  Like www.sherrattandreece.co.uk with their antique & vintage prints and www.retropattern.co.uk who source their fabulous retro fabrics from all over the world.

I bought two cushions from Manchester based www.allmodconsvintage.com

Look at the funky phones they sell.
A friend of mine has a green one and loves it.

This stallholder groups her wares by colour it made her stall stand out. Stallholder Chris said how proud he was of his wife's talent for displaying the stock.
I would like to show you the beautifully covered bedroom stool I bought but its for my sister for Christmas and she might see it.

Don't miss the Victoria Baths
Art & Craft Fair
Sunday 4th November
12pm - 4pm

It's to help them raise money for their stained glass appeal.

(don't know whats happened to my display work today, blogger seems to be acting up a bit, sorry)

Ps. dont forget to look at the new blog

What a load of baubles......

After being inspired by a Christmas Bauble my friend Mo Allan had made
we thought it would be a good craft for the Sunnybank members to try.

So using ribbon, a polystyrene ball, lots of coloured pins and twinkly stars and flowers they set to.

With fantastic results.

Now we can not sign off without some of Susan's famous factoids.
What are they about today, she asked.  Obviously we all said Christmas.
But no.... they were about HALLOWEEN.

Here are a few you might not know, or want to know

The word Halloween marks the end of summer in north west Europe and bonfires are lit during the festival of Samhain to ensure the sun returns after winter.
It was celebrated as much by the Celts who believed that on the 31st October the dead returned looking for bodies to inhabit, so they dressed in costumes to confuse them.
Lanterns were first made from turnips and is an Irish tradition.
Harry Houdini died on Halloween night in 1926.
Fear of Halloween is call Samhainophobia.

Scottish girls believed they would see images of their future husband if they hung wet sheets in front of the fire.
Others looked in mirrors while walking downstairs at midnight.

Susan really does find the most obscure facts sometimes.

NEW BLOG - SKETCHBOOK FRIENDS

Following on from the Sketchbook Project I recently did, I thought it would be nice to do a blog where anyone who likes sketchbooking, whatever medium they use, could share it with other like minded people.

Have a look at what it is about by clicking on to this link

I will be writing about inspirational people and books and hope that you will contribute too.
Its a blog for everyone to join in as well as to share your own work.

I've just started my book

I hope you join us

TAGS & BUNDLES

My inspiration for this week's TAG TUESDAY CHALLENGE  came from these seed heads in my garden

Staying on the theme of nature look at this cobweb I found this morning

PERFECT
Another tag, this one inspired by the colours of Autumn
Along with some friends on the 1st December we are doing an experiment where we will bury or hang in the garden a number of things wrapped in a bundle of fabric and paper, leave it for three months and see what emerges.  After unwrapping the bundles and letting them dry out we will attempt to make something with it.
This is a hanging that was made in a previous experiment.  I hope mine turns out as well.
I'm jumping the gun a bit and have started one wrap already. I wanted to use the blackcurrants that were falling from the bush in our garden.  As you can see I've added a sliced pomegranate, raspberries, some spices and flowerheads to lace and tissue paper among other things.

I put in some old torn book pages, map pieces and some handmade paper.

Here's my bundle wrapped in twine.  You can the raspberries seeping through already.

And here it is stashed inside my rusty old typewriter in the garden, open to the elements where it will now stay come rain or shine until the 24th January or thereabouts.

Why dont' you do one of your own.  I am hoping for some nice pink effects from this one.  Rust and blue will be what i am hoping to achieve when I do the December one.
