What's on my workdesk today.....

For those who have been following along with my course work here is the final colourway I am going with for my apron and here is part of the layout

Under instruction from our beloved leader Karen Ruane
our tutorial this week consisted of trying free machine embroidery using lace and trims..  I have to tell you now me and that process do not mix.  Don't be fooled by the photography, it was hell.
The purpose of the exercise is to create a surface to embroider on to.
I may end up in an asylum before I get my head round it.

Don't forget to have a look what everyone else is doing at their desks

  1. Hi Lynn, gosh that looks a really difficult process with all those gorgeous different lacy bits, rather you than me. I am confident however that you will master it. Lovely colourways again. Have a lovely day Hugs Mo x

  2. Happy WOYWW. Beautiful lace. I am yet to tackle machine embroidery, but think I will be starting with a more simple project! Ali x #22, with candy

  3. More stunning works in progress Lynn. I'd really love a course like yours but my hours are filled with sorting and clearing out ready for the house move at the mo.

  5. Looks fab as what you say. I love the layout and the colour ways.
It's all about guiding slowly and foot pressing for fast. Now saying that its not easy and I need to practise as I will be doing it myself (and cussing because I can't get it right).
    :)
    Keep smiling

  6. Hi Lynn Put some stitch and tear underneath, its hard to do free machining on an unstable background. Your choice of colours are good.

  10. Hi Lynn, love the itsy-bitsy retro prints on the fabrics - they so take me back in time :) And the laces are just scrumptious. However, that machine embroidery technique would scare me rigid! Good luck with it. Have a happy WOYWW, Elizabeth x #26

  13. Beautiful colourway you've decided on Lynn. It is going to be gorgeous. I don't envy you that machining but I'm sure there's something you can put under it, do the sewing and then tear it away, but I'm darned if I can remember what it's called just now. I'll see if I can find out. Happy WOYWW :0) Mo xx

  15. I love the colour combination you've chosen for your apron - I have fallen in love with the combination of your zigzag edged crochet against the ticking - aren't they just gorgeous together!

  19. I love all the gorgeous fabric and color palate here! Do you have an embroidery sewing machine? Just wondering, because I've never tried it with just my regular sewing machine--and I'm actually planning on purchasing a combination sewing/embroidery machine next month! I may have told you that already, but it's kind of exciting! Happy WOYWW! Sandy Leigh #106

    1. No it's just a normal sewing machine Sandy. I will be interested to know what you buy. I'm not very good on mine yet but I keep ploughing away at it.

  20. Hi Lynn, not joining in this week (again!), been off-line for ages (bulders fault!). Love your colour choices, really do not envy you stitching those beautiful laces together but Mo's suggestion is a good one. Looking forward to seeing you next week. Hugs, Anne x

  21. You've got me Lynn...the laces and textures you're sewing do not, to me, need further embroidery..rather they are the embellishment. Mind you, that could be my mental immediate excuse for not wanting to try that! Love the basket of notions and fabric selections, looks all calm and 'before' ish!

  26. Loving what you are doing, your colour choices and the chosen fabrics too. I wish I was there to gee you on with your free machining as it really is fluid and easy once you get the hang of it. It's like drawing with the needle and when the mind/eye/hand co-ordination flows you don't even think of the process any more than you would when you are drawing those Doodly Birds!

  27. Oh my word! You are a brave woman...that looks like a nightmare to me. Mind you I struggle with a simple needle and thread for sewing up a hem! Good Luck with it all. Thanks for sharing. Happy belated WOYWW. Caro #56

  31. Beautiful project! I try and glue the ends with a fabric glue so that they stay in place then try using a wonder bond or similar project to get it more strength and it wont move around as much. Little late getting around this week but better a little late then never! Hope you have a great week. Vickie #11
