IT'S BUILT ON SPRINGS... Where am I ?

My pretty goddaughter Amy
Did you guess ?
I was at the Bridgewater Hall, Manchester and we were doing one of the organised tours of the building.
And here is one of the box of springs that it is built on.  We had a fantastic guide and the history of the hall is wonderful.  I strongly recommend you book on a tour.
Did you know that the floor in the reception area has real gold flecks in it.
From the top floor (where the cheap but very good seats are) you can see the Hilton Hotel -Beetham Tower, the old railway station now GMEX and I was fortunate to catch the tram going by.  You couldnt hear a thing as it rattle passed.
Out of another window you can see the back of the Midland Hotel.
I loved the idea of this piece of wall art representing WATER, WEAVE & MUSIC.
We then moved onto the Whitworth Art Gallery, had a nice lunch and a look round the exhibitions and I bought a card of textile designer Lucienne Day's as it reminded me of my current work on my Alchemy course.

  1. Some of my favourite places. Not only did I live in Manchester for a while but I studied at the University of Manchester and worked at Manchester Royal Infirmary so was able to visit the Whitworth frequently. I've also been to quite a few Halle Orchestra performances, including the Christmas carol concerts and thoroughly enjoyed them. However, I didn't know about the springs and the gold flecks so thanks for sharing. I'll now go and dazzle my Mancunian husband with these little gems :)) Elizabeth xx

  4. Wow! I knew about those springs but what an experience to see around such an amazing place. Great photos. Love the Whitworth too. Wanted to see the paper cut exhibition (I think at the museum) but it finishes end of this month and sadly we never made it.

    2. Hi Lynn, from sunny Australia! Thank you for sending me the link so that I could see the water and waves piece at Bridgewater Hall. It's beautiful - I love the way the lines create depth and seem to roll in the air. I was born in Manchester so I enjoyed the nostalgic connection too. Alchemy is certainly giving us all plenty to think about - I have enjoyed all of Karen's courses and learned a lot each time - can't wait to see the Flickr pages and enjoy everyone's amazing art! - love your studio picture!!
