More from Victoria Baths, Manchester

As promised here's the next bit about Victoria Baths, Mancheseter

After we had finished looking at the fantastic interior of the baths we moved onto the Vintage Fair.  It was, as are all vintage events, buzzing with a great atmosphere.
Look at what I managed to scoop up at some great prices.
Thats me set up for winter now.  I tried a couple of fabulous dresses on but as we all know in years gone by ladies were a lot slimmer than we are now.  They had wispier waists and were smaller on top too, so I had to put them back on the rail.
This housecoat made me laugh out loud.  I remember when I was 17 working in the office of a factory that manufactured these.  The manager was a tyrant and the shop floor girls would be constantly in floods of tears because of him. Progress is he would not have got a away with it these days.  Some friends of mine worked in another local mill, Courtaulds, making the same garments. Sad to say that both mills have been shut for many years now.

Another friend of mine lives in an old victorian police station and when she bought it there were more than 20 beds in it, they housed the Philippino girls that worked for the tyrant mill manager.

Secretly, I quite like the housecoat and as I am turning into the vintage queen perhaps I should have bought it, if only for the memories.

Don't think I will be going anywhere near this contraption.
Get down to the baths and see what it was for.

Hope you enjoyed my latest adventure.

  1. Hi Lynne, more great photos and you managed to buy some lovely things too. I think it is a sauna or steam machine, but that's just my guess. I really should go some time. Crafty hugs, Anne x

I think it's a time machine that transports you back to the old days when people wore flowery nylon housecoats!!!
